Bontrager SSR vs. Tiagra wheels

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bontrager SSR vs. Tiagra wheels

Hello everyone, I'm looking at getting my first road bike, and am leaning towards a LeMond Reno. My lbs has an 06 in stock in my size, or can order an 07 for me should I choose to go that route. My question is in regards to the wheels, which I admittedly know next to nothing about... The 06 comes with the "Tiagra wheelsystem" while the 07 comes with Bontrager SSR. Other than the wheels and the paint jobs the bikes are identical (the 07 is absolutely gorgeous, while the 06 is pretty uninspiring).

Basically, are the Bontrager's a step up or down from the Tiagra?

EDIT: I can't remember off the top of my head, and the Lemond site does not say what rims are used in either case.

the 06 would be about a hundred cheaper (800 vs. 900). here are the two sites...

2006 https://2006.lemondbikes.com/2006_bikes/reno.shtml

the newer wheels are just a cheaper version of bontrager's race/race lite... The older wheels look a little beefier, but I doubt you'd have any problems with either.

get the color you like.

although as another option, i just picked up a used lemond sarthe '06 full ultegra for $1090 shipped to my door. You might consider the used option, definitely more bang for the buck.

yeah i figured that the differences between the two sets would likely be a wash

as far as used is concerned, i've always been leery of ebay (and craigslist,to an extent). i have a friend who works at the shop and i may see if he knows of anyone trying to sell a bike...i went through him when the fork on my mountain bike died and he hooked me up with a very nice fork for a very good price.

anyway, thanks for the thoughts

what size do you ride? You can find some real good deals on smooth riding steel framed bikes with full Ultegra if you look around a little.....
