Centaur weight more than Veloce?
I was just looking at the weights for the campy shifters, and I just noticed that the Centaur shifters weigh 406gr/set and the Veloce are only 402gr/set. Not that you would notice the weight difference but why is this?

Those must be the 2006 weights. Pretty sure the 2007 Centaur gets carbon levers don't they?

ya, I'm looking at 2006 since I don't like the limitation on gear dropping on the 2007 centaur and veloce.

In that case the 4g is probably contributed to the paint/whatever is on the Centaur levers's century gray color. Otherwise, your guess is as good as mine.

then what is the difference? I've heard over and over again how much better Centaur is from Veloce, then what's the difference if it's not the weight?

Where have you heard that over and over? I hear only positive things about veloce, never hear how Centaur is far ahead. After looking at Campy Chorus last weekend, I believe it more that the only difference is weight (by use of different materials), and finish.

Could be the Veloce uses a high-quality, but heavier set of bearings. Who knows.

Slightly nicer materials is the difference. Maybe not so much in the shifters but likely in the other components. I had a wonderful guy on these boards post a good explanation a while back about what exactly made a higher-end group better - a lot of it was simply the material. Maybe if I could find that post again.. hm.

Err the Centaur and Veloce Ergo levers are identical except for the cut out on the up shift lever. The weight difference between the two should be like 4g lighter for the Centaur pair. The derailleurs are the parts of the Centaur group that are done to a nicer finish level...there is NO reason to get the Centaur Ergo levers over the Veloce unless you want the grey or want the Ergo levers to match the rest of a Centaur groupo...the internas of the two are identical (look at the parts lists for both, the upshift lever is the only different part). Centaur and Veloce use bushings in the Ergo levers where Record and Chorus use bearings. The Centaur hubs are a higher level than the Veloce, they share the same hub shells, races, and bearings as Chorus and Record. The front hubs of all three are nearly identical and the rear hubs are only different as the Record ads Ti and the lube port. Centaur hubs are the best value in the line.
This is all pre 2007 info FWIW.
