Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Helmet worn by Phonak

Anyone know who makes the helmet worn by team Phonak in last years tour? It has huge holes up front and looks a bit goofy. I dont care just want the coolest (temp) helmet possible. Thanks. Carlos

its made by a company called Catlike from Spain. as of now there is no U.S. distributor because they haven't passed certification. i've heard that might change this year but till then you have to find a european vendor willing to ship to the U.S.

Probikekit has them, with free shipping to the US (I believe).

Didn't Phonak wear that latest Giro helmet, the one that is supposed to replace the Atmos, in this last year's tour? I know it wasn't a Catlike. Euskatel wears the Catlike Whisper I believe. Very different helmet.

Are you thinking of this one? The one worn at this years tour was the Ionos... I kinda doubt it'll come in phonak colors when it does go on sale...

Based on the rest of the responses, I figured he was talking about the '06 tour...

This goofy helmet?

How 'bout that OJ trial, eh??

They wore Catlike Whispers (aka, the cheese shredder) and Catlike Kompact Pro early in the season, but switched over to Giro Atmos around the time of Tour de Georgia (or maybe it was Paris-Nice... one of those won by Floyd he was sporting an Atmos....).

Like Rabo and Disco, they started wearing the new Giro Ionos during the TdF.

Catlike Kompact Pro:

Catlike Whisper:

Giro Atmos:

Giro Ionos: See picture in post #5 above.

Take your pick....

it's like "i'm right-you're wrong" and usually it's not even the case, as here. obviously the guys asking about catlikes as the ionos from giro looks exactly like the atmos which looks exactly like the pneumo and so on. uggg.

Well if you want the Catlike helmet from ProBikekit you have to fool their website, set your settings to country of origin to the U.K order the helmet, and before you cash out change your country of origin to the United States, and then wait about a week.
The site won't let you order it if you try to order it form the United States as your country of origin.

Yes, Euskatel wears Catlike, as did the Agritubel team in the TdF this year, IIRC.

Euskatel makes sense, since Catlike is a Spain-based company.

BTW, I think the Catlikes are not available in the US due to not having yet been certified by ANSI standards? Anyone know if this is the case?

At first I thought you were describing the one Mario Cipollini wore in the 1999 tour de france:
