Wanna laugh? Another "Quickstep" bibs story from my Sat. ride

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wanna laugh? Another "Quickstep" bibs story from my Sat. ride

A free couple of hours on a Saturday morning with the sun out and 60 degrees. I decide to put my Sunday best on for a Saturday ride.

I had the full blue and white look going on, with my favorite long-sleeved jersey from my Spain trip several years ago, my white Francaise Des Jeux team-issue gloves from Paris, and of course, the infamous blue Quickstep bibs.

Now, while the other two stories about rides while wearing these bibs were about hotties checking me out in them, today it was something totally different.

I'm waiting for the light to change at a busy intersection.
There is a car coming in the opposite direction that will make a left-hand turn after I have gone straight through the intersection.

Thing is, being a dufus, a forgot to shift to an easier gear as I came down a slight hill to that stop light.

So the light goes green and I am in the big ring and about the third hardest gear in the rear cassette.
I suppose we've all been there.....crap....arg....out of the saddle as I slowly nudge across the intersection.

Once I am halfway through, I hear a man's voice yelling at me. It's coming from that truck that was waiting to make his left turn from the opposite direction.

As he finally turns and is behind me I hear:

"HEY! YOU GOT ALL THAT GEAR ON, GET GOING!"

I had to laugh out loud at myself and think, "Boy, the OCP haters on BF are gonna love this story."

Then I also thought to myself, "Dude, meet me a few blocks up in the parkway and I'll show you what this gear can do."

I then proceeded to dial it up to 400 watts and cranked out a great little ride.

When those bibs wear out, you are going to have to have them bronzed. So you can place them on your mantle.

HA.
Never saw the guy's face, but if it WAS him it would have been the first time he talked to me in six years!

Stuff like this once in a while give me a glimmer of hope that not all drivers are asshats.

Cagers are always impressed when you dial it up to 400 watts while in full kit. Wonderful jost Mr. Hipcycler. I do miss the Knave threads and nothing will ever beat the "dialed it up to 400 watts" thread from last year. I have been needing to laugh a little lately and you guys don't disappoint. Thanks.

Sorry Hip, but I think I'll maintain a healthy amount of skepticism about the line above.

Then again, I've heard that you have a new training partner.

botto, they just keep getting better!

Note to self--

LBS shopping list:

--New Quickstep cap
--White turtleneck base layer (love the look Boon)
(His birthday is Oct. 15th by the way)

And as for this:

Then I also thought to myself, "Dude, meet me a few blocks up in the parkway and I'll show you what this gear can do."

...to be honest, I was having a good day in those bibs yesterday, and inspired by what that driver said I did the parkway section maintaining almost 24 mph. (then I blew up and sat up)

Olga and Helga look "durable" in that picture.

Is that a Brooks on Boonen's partners bike.

Boonen's got a seat bag. No sag car for him.

When dressed in your kit, you will always get the most stares, whistles, and comments when you're moving real slow.

It's true.

That's why you should look like a Fred on your recovery rides.
