Got a old bike?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Got a old bike?

Howdee fellows. My MTB season is done this year and I did not end the way i should've. So i am ganna train harder for next year. I need a old road bike to get some training on when i cant make it out to the trails. I have had a roader befor and liked the different type of riding it takes.

so if you have a old bike lying around i could use it!
Thank you, Leo

I have an old bike

but then I realized I could convert it to a fixed-gear and did so accordingly.

You are prob a 54 or a 56 depending on how long a top tube you need.
Start looking in the papers for used bikes, some bike shops sell used as well.
Not much point in spending as much in shipping as the bike costs.
Some bikes to look for... Learn what bikes looked like in the 80's. Those bikes will still be cheap, but they made some really nice bikes back then. There are many, but I like the old Treks and Bridgestones and Schwinns from the era.
If it is a qulaity bike, the guy selling it prob knows it and may ask for some money. You can usually negotiate that down some. I think Sheldon Brown has
an article on his webpage on restoring old bikes, might be worth a look. If you wind up getting a bike with steel rims, replace them. They are very heavy, and the brakes won't work in the rain. You will most likely need to replace the brake pads. I always switch bikes to bar end shifters and Brooks saddles, but now we are into matters of personal preference.

If you're looking for free stuff try freecycle.

If you're looking for cheap stuff try Craigslist, eBay, garage sales and local thrift stores. Don't disregard trash pile finds.

To add on to that, go to the for trade thread in this forum and on the last page you'll see someone is trading away exactly that.
