proper reach length?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

proper reach length?

im part of the QS2-S groupbuy and im trying to part together some things for when it arrives. I got around to looking at stems and things came to a halt. how do i determine what my proper reach would be to the handlebars? im registered for the 53cm frame and i am 5' 10", as im going for the smaller frame approach for the more aero, more weight over the front wheel position (see the Jens voigt thread) which requires a longer stem and higher seatpost. now how do i determine just HOW LONG the stem should really be in order to obtain that affect (aka what should my total reach be)?

Wrenchscience.com has an excellent fit program that will give you your total reach as well as other fit values based on your body measurements.

Just go to the website, register and follow the fit system link.

Whoa. I'm around your height, and I have a 565 TT + 120 stem which = 685 total.

A 53cm PF has a 538 TT, so I'd need around a 150 stem to get my proper reach. I'm thinking you're going to be looking at a 130 or 140, unless your proportions are really strange.

That's just a guess though. Definitely look it up on austinspinner's link to see how close I am.
