How do you blow your nose on your bike?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well the approved snot blowing technique while in a race or the middle of a group where I could hit someone, is to do the normal thing where you blow it between the elbow and ribs, directly aimed at the ground. But this is a bit of an acquired technique since you need to have enough power behind your blow to force it to the ground and not the guy behind you. But I'm also 6'3 and sometimes the height differential between me and the person behind me causes some of it to tag them. But one thing is for certain, it large packs or riders going fast, is that everyone gets it sooner or later. Sort of like crashing I guess.

It also has a lot to do with diet. If you load up on dairy etc. you will create some stuff that will come out whether you like it or not. Another technique is to blow onto your hand and then wipe it on your shorts. Sure ya got slime on your shorts, but you're gonna wash em anyway right.

I rarely blow my nose on my bike, I usually try to hit the road with my snot rockets instead.

I went on a group ride the other day and there was a girl with us carrying a little pack of Kleenex. So cute...

i use the backs of the gloves for the dripping bits, but if i'm all blocked up, i head to the back of the group. what's REALLY exciting is when you get a nosebleed on a (collegiate) team training ride...riding while sitting up with one hand pinching the bridge of your nose is a lot of fun

I usually stop and find a child or disabled person. I blow the snot in their face and mush it around a little.

You should always have something handy you can cram up your nose in an emergency. Perhaps a crumpled up bit of powerbar wrapper... something.

On the bike? no, it's really not absorbent enough and leaves the paint looking horrid.

I carry a hankerchief in my niks and find it much more effective than spraying other riders. What do others think? To blow or not to blow - that is the question...
I know some people just love to post any little question or thought, but geez -- we can't figure out how to blow snot without asking the whole forum? This really is not rocket science, folks!

Did someone get out of bed on the wrong side today? Sorry Mr Coyote2, but I think spraying riders with snot is a disgusting habit. I can't think of any other sport where this type of activity would be tolerated. If the sport is going to attract more people, including more women, blowing snot in peoples faces has to stop. In Melbourne, some commuter bike routes have seen an 80% increase in traffic over the last year and the recent round the bay in a day ride attracted over 14,000 riders. I think cyclists today have a responsibility to welcome new riders not blow snot in their faces.

Has anyone disagreed?

Gee, that's pretty controversial. You're pretty daring. Honestly, do you think the snot-blower who started all of this would disagree? Don't you suppose it was just a mistake? Of all the things that can go wrong on a group ride (crashes, etc.), a little snot doesn't rank very high.

I need to blow my nose on a ride well, almost never. I don't think I did it once this year. Whats going on with everyones noses? I find if I ride on the rare occasion I have a cold, then my nose actually clears while excercising on its own.

And yes, if you do need to blow then move over to the side, and check behind you for GOOD clearance before letting it fly.
Dude- they don't need to blow, they are just doing it to annoy you! They are actually jealous that you are so cool as to have only blown once this year. I'll bet you saved it for your record book, too, right?

Listen, I said I MIGHT hit their shoe. Get over it. I blow it straight down, and on the side closest to the outside. Snot's going down at 30mph, and forward at 25mph. You might get some spray.

Unless it's a long road race (cruising steadily), I would never sacrifice position just to blow my nose. It's a race. Grow a pair.

If someone blows snot without a care in the world, race or no race, then they're an obnoxious jerk, plain and simple.
I may be an obnoxious jerk, but I'm neither plain, nor simple.

If you can't handle a little criticism because people don't appreciate snot being blown on to them, then maybe it's you who should grow a pair.
I'm not looking for appreciation in a race. I'm also not aiming at anyone. If I need to blow my nose, I'm going to blow my nose.

Regarding critisism, I couldn't care less what you think. I just enjoy arguing
