Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fork Upgrade, should I do it?

To start off with some background, for the offseason my plan was to build up a new bike, my first bike build ever. I was planning on using a mixture of parts from my old bike, used stuff from ebay, and a few new parts. I was looking at getting a C'dale caad7 or 8 frame. I didnt want to get anything fancy or expensive, just a fast bike to get the job done.

So I have been scouring ebay for a good frame, but I found a really good deal on a complete used 05 R700(Caad7). It ended up costing only a few hundred more then what a bare frame would have cost. So I thought I would just strip it down, and replace everything. Well I got the bike the other day, rode it a few times and I have to say, its a really nice bike the way it is. Its in excellent condition, the bike is like new, and all of the stock componenets work well.

So I have decided to leave it mostly the way it is except for a few upgrades. I have a set of Reynolds Alta Races on the way, gp4000 tires from the old bike, ultegra cassette......

But this brings me to the title of the thread, should I upgrade the fork? It comes stock with the slice ultra, which I believe only has carbon legs, the rest of it is aluminum. I was planning on picking up a Reynolds Ouzo Pro, although after riding the bike I am now undecided. Would I see any noticable improvement by upgrading to this fork?
Also for people who have gotten the ouzo pro, who sells it for the best price? I was planning on buying it at trivillage.com, but having them pm it to pricepoint.

Try reading these reviews, there are 40. I read a few and there were references to Caad frames and Slice forks. Maybe it will help.

Unless you're a total weight weenie, I would spend that money elsewhere. Upgrading a perfectly good fork seems like overkill.

The slice fork might not be the lightest in the bunch but it still works.

First, I agree the replacing a perfectly good fork is not a good use of money. I'm not sure what the slice fork weighs, but if you're going to upgrade, get the lightest. the ouzo pro still comes in a about 400 grams, the easton slx is 295.
