Good music for the trainer?
 

can anybody name some good music for listening to on the trainer?

I'm looking for stuff around 100 bpm. I'd prefer rock music. Electronic stuff would be cool, but not if the songs are more than 5 minutes long...

I recently rediscovered "Eminence Front" by the Who (version by Pete Townshend). It seems a little momotonous at first as it kicks the same beat/riff most of the way through. but the cadence is excellent and it really allows you to drop into a groove and zone in (out?)

I would encourage you to seek out Ghostland Observatory. An easy way to get it is to search itunes for "austin city limits ghostland observatory" That should give you their live performance at this year's festival. They are a blend of rock/techno that is absolutely addicting, and great for pounding the pedals.

I just really started with my new rollers, so I turned on (the CD) XX by Mushroomhead and turned off the lights, it really got me soaring to new heights. But that kind of stuff isn't really for anybody.
I haven't tried yet, but Tool is an awesome band.
But that is only for "Zen Mode". Try lighter stuff for just riding to ride.

I listen to metal & hardcore when I'm forced to use the trainer. Not for everybody, but makes me want to crush pedals all day.

p.s. I tried listening to it on rollers, though, and found that I had a hard time staying on ;) :)

Go old school. Temptations "Wall of Confusion". "The Express" BT Express. "Pick Up the Pieces" AWB. Any uptempo Rick James.

And for Techno there's still nothing better than Kraftwerk's "Tour de France".

Anything with a good beat.

Depending on the mood could be some Dave Mathews or even some Metallica.

I just turn the TV on to one of the all music channels in the 900's like "party" or "dance" or "techno". I don't normally listen to any of those types of music but the fast paced music does make me move a little quicker and I tend to stay on a little longer. There's also a "metal" station but it seems I always catch it during power ballad hour...talk about something to get you off the bike quickly

The rest of the album goes from downright creepy to slow and fast.

If you have hours to waste, and want something cool, try this:

In iTunes, enter the BPM for all your songs. Find a program to calculate it for you by tapping a button. Then, create a smart playlist that contains all the songs in a certain tempo range (90-100 or whatever). I tried, but didnt make it very far through my library entering BPMs. Smart Playlists are the greatest thing since sliced bread, though.

For fans of metal, especially '..And Justice for All', you should check out The Sword. Sounds like a fun version of Mastodon. Every song has 2-3 very catchy riffs that they just roll out and jam on before moving onto the next. I've played this probably a hundred times while doing my night rides. Perfect exercise music. Priestess' "Hello Master" is also very good for this.

I get some satellite radio stations through my DirecTV receiver. I usually turn to the station called "Squizz". Has faster paced rock music. NonPoint, Korn, Mudvayne, etc. I like the faster pace music to keep me going.
