2003 Raleigh Supercourse - check for cracks
Not that many of you guys probably have this frame, but check the frame around the headset for small cracks. We were at the LBS getting my girlfriend's bike tuned and one of the mechanics there used to work for a Raleigh dealer. He said that our model had a history of it from improper heat something-or-another on the frame around the headset. Sure enough, we checked and it was cracked in two places. They actually had ANOTHER of the same frame in the shop already with 3 cracks in the same area.
The frame is on the way back to Raleigh, and we're keeping our fingers crossed for a frame upgrade. (so far, the frames that have been coming back have been all over the map - according to the LBS) Just thought you guys should know. |
Yeah I had the same problem, twice. Eventually got an upgraded frame for an upcharge.

Did they mention if this is just a problem with carbon frames or are the aluminum in the same category of concern?
...I'm in the market for a entry level road bike and was looking to buy Grand Prix. Hell, total frame failure is not something I ever want to encounter, should I just forget Raleigh altogether? |
it was just the aluminum supercourse frames(and the one model lower) for the year 2003.
New Raleigh frames have no problem whatsoever with regards to this issue. |
branman1986, thanks for the clarification.
