Bibs vs Tights/Shorts?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I thought every self-respecting cyclist wore bibs - summer or winter.

Why the difference? I'm still sitting on the bike pedalling along. If anything, wearing bibs on the trainer is more important because you move around even less than when riding on the road, so comfort and things staying in place are just as if not more important, no?

(now when I figure out how to stand up on these dern rollers I'll back away from that 'moving around less' statement)

That's a great thread, btw. Good stuff.

Nope, not true. I've got some bibs, but I think I prefer shorts. I'm self respecting.

I can't believe I clicked on yet another bibs vs. shorts thread.

If I could find a pair of bibs that fit me, I might have something useful to add to the discussion.

As it is, I like the wool shorts from vintagevelos.com. The work well for me, and they're quite comfy.

Bibs just don't work for someone of my proportions:
- 140#
- 5'11"
- 29-30in waist

If the legs are long enough, my waist swims in a sea of fabric. If the waist fits, my feet are bound like women of chinese history.

I don't have rollers but a stationary trainer, so less movement:

I wear bibs to keep things from moving on the road.... on the trainer I don't move as much so lesschance of things moving. I like shorts on the trainer because you don't have the straps and mesh backpanel to block sweat. When I wear bibs on the trainer I get really hot and just take the straps off.... the straps can get in the way at times so I perfer shorts.

FWIW, I only own one pair of shorts and 7 pair of bibs.... so i am normally wearing bibs all the time.
