My new shoes were made in Romania...can you guess what brand they are?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just got my Sidi's, Genuis 5 from ProBikeKit. I thought that they were handmade in Italy. Not that it matters, the fit and finish seem to be top notch. I was surprised that they weren't made in Italy though. Have some Diadora's that were made in Bulgaria too. They'll look great with my Castelli jersey (also not made in Italy)

Who cares, as long as the quality is there.

I tend to go through a lot of dress shoes, everytime I see a pair that's "Made in Romania" I usually buy on spot. Consider yourself lucky... Romanian stuff is usually top notch. (Including their women, but that's another story for another time).

I just noticed today that my Cannondale arm warmers were made in Romania. It struck me as odd at first...then I told myself I didn't really care because they did their job rather well.

My everyday trail shoes are Slovakian (from Lowa, a Bavarian company) - I suppose Slovakia is just down the road... And Technica hiking boots from Romania...

My usual cycling shorts from Northwave (Italian company) are made in Croatia... but my NW arm warmers are actually made in Italy.

I was quite surprised to notice that my Pearl Izumi tri shorts are made in the USA... as is a Gore jersey.

My Lusso overshoes are made in Britain.

And my frame was actually made in France.

All the Trek and Specialized stuff is from China or Taiwan......

Maybe that's why they are kinda expensive.

I've been to Romania 3 times. They don't have much money, but each time I've gone over there their standard of living goes up just a little bit. They're nice folk, by and large. And the women under thirty are babes. Then they double in size, just like some AMerican ladies do.

It's nice to see that this is not one of those "do you hear that loud sucking sound?" threads.

I just got a a pair of Sidi "Scarpes" from Romania for all of 32$ shipped as a second pair.

I don't know about models like Genius that are sold as "Italian" shoes but mine are noticeably wider than "real" (?) Sidis. I never would get into 47 regulars, maybe not even Mega but these seem to fit well, though no miles yet.

Romanians have bigger feet?

Nothing is really made where you expect it to be made;
My Cannondale shorts were made in Italy for example.

Funny, there is a problem with them taking your jobs, but you have no problem taking their women.

*sigh*

Is it not common knowledge that Treks are made in Taiwan? Made in the USA my arse

My instinct was to ignore this comment... but alright... I'll bite.
It's not them that people have a problem with, I suspect it's the American [I]corporations [I/] making that decision that people have a problem with. There is a distinct difference. As for women, we are AMERICANS, made of all shades and colors. Americans are mutts by definition... it's what makes us great! What do you mean by their women?

I have 4 pairs of Diadora road shoes and all are made in Bulgaria. I remember playing soccer as a teen using diadora shoes and they were made in Italy then.
