622 x 15c Wheel size, what is that?
 

I'm new to cycling and I don't understand wheel sizes. I'm looking to buy a pair of shimano wh-550 rims and apparently they are 622x15c wheels size. Is that the same as a 700c rim? Will I be able to use existing 700x23c tires on it?

Are you asking for 600 or 622? I've not heard of 600 size, 622 is the ISO designation of the 700c size bead seat diameter.

Thx treefox. Are they decent rims for training on? I weigh about 195 lbs. What would be a good deal/price on a pair in great shape, with about 300 miles on them? thx.

If you do a search for them here on BF, there are a lot of people not terribly happy with them - or at least the 550 wheelset - are these just 550 rims or the entire wheel? Lots of people have had problems with the wheels going out of true fairly quickly - which is to some extent happening to me too after 700 miles or so this autumn. This may be due to the factory spoke pattern on the rear wheel though. But I got a good price on them and they suit me for the level of racing that I do. They're not terribly stiff wheels though.

I'm maybe 80 kilos or so (don't actually know really) which I think comes out to like... what? 175 lbs?

Overall, I can't complain really. They're fine and the black ones look quite smart. The only major complaint I'd have is the cost of the spokes - like £3.50 each... I should be able to get a box of spokes for that. But if you're just getting the rims, I think I'd rate them as an unremarkable mid-low end aero rim that would suit winter training quite well.

I don't have any sense re: what just the rims would be worth...

622x15c vs 622x17c
 

If original wheel size is 622X15c, would a 622X17c work?

Are you asking about what size tire to put on that wheel?

the spec for the wheel rim of 622x15c just tells you that it has a 622mm bead seat diameter and the internal width measured across the rim from bead seat to opposite side bead seat is 15 mm.

You can put any tire that is 622 x something on that rim as long as it fits in the bike frame and isn't narrower than the internal width of the rim.

There are generally accepted sizes that you shouldn't exceed with a tire and rim, but you are unlikely to hit that on most bikes without having frame or brake caliper interference.

On road bikes, most people are running 23 to 28 mm wide tires. Some 32 mm wide. Tires of 622 BSD are more commonly called 700C to add to the confusion.

My original rim is 622x15c and I just realized that the new rims that I purchased are 622x17c; The tire size I've been using is 700x25c. I'm wondering if it will work with both my tires and 58cm 2015 caad10 frame size?

The 15 and 17 indicate the width of the rim, 622 is the bead seat diameter of the rim (also called 700c).

In general, any 700c tire will fit as long as it is not narrower than the rim. A tire much wider than the rim (like more then 2x) is not ideal but will work. Aside from that, the only limit is how big a tire will fit inside your frame/fork/brakes.

You'll have 1mm less clearance on each side of the rim. You can take up that difference with a twist of the barrel adjuster on the brake cable.
