Disco announces 2007 Kit design

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

the article is referencing body heat loss in birds, and its from 1978. They werent testing fabrics on athletes, they were testing fluffy bird feathers..

No one rides around wearing adjustable feathers in maitain body temperature. the article states that flattened black plumage is the worst regardless of wind speed, and seems to me lycra resembles flattened feathers more than fluffed ones.. Just becuase some religions favor black clothes in the desert doesn't mean its better for sport.

edited to say that someone already mentioned this. And remember, Piero has no choice but to wear his sponsors colors..

Now.. all that being said.. Disco wouldnt allow the black if it was going to be a hinderance. I can't imagine that it hasnt been tested etc.. interesting

Ah well, your right. I guess if Pereiro could perform so great in black for that one day, that means every single rider in Disco will like it too for every sunny hot day they ride.

I guess it will feel nice in the spring with the cool temps but strong sun.

everyone is piping in, so i guess i will too. i think it's their best version yet, only i wish they would've found a way to put the word "discovery" across the chest rather than up the side. the first ones were ok, & the 2nd ones looked too much like quick-step, so these are somewhat refreshing. i guess we should've guessed they were going to this style on their kit when they released that new giro helmet at le tour.

i can't wait to see what the bikes are going to look like as they progressively get better looking as well. i loved the paint job on their tt bikes at le tour. that blue is sexy.

Good thing floyd isn't on discovery, he'd melt his ass off in black this year, look how hard a time he had in green and yellow. j/k

Pretty sharp looking. I too like the orientation of the "Discovery" word, and as much as i like the black over the white filler, they're almost "TOO" black, next year's tweaked design will probably be better.

I like it!

Maybe now I will be able to pick out a Disco rider from the peleton like we could with USPS livery.

Other than Valverde, who crashed, the rest of the team seemed to survive the Tour just fine. I don't remember hearing about any Caisse D'Epargne domestiques dying of heatstroke... And wasn't Valverde, the only one on the team who abandoned, wearing WHITE as the ProTour leader?

In terms of the basic color block layout, their new kit is almost identical to my team's kit from this past year. As far as comfort with the black I found that it was only noticeable in the spring during the first few weeks of warmer weather. Because you aren't used to the warmer temps yet, the sensation of heat on your shoulders is uncomfortable because it's out of balance with how you feel everywhere else. But once the really hot weather sets in, you don't notice because everything is hot and uncomfortable. That was just my experience, yours may very of course.

I didn't mean "get over" cancer... It's just that when you make the yellow a part of a pro team jersey, some (like myself) might view it as making a statement about being a TdF champion.

And I get the thing about Lance and his foundation, which I support, but it somehow seems different than wearing the bracelet. I mean, Bjarne Riis won the tour and he's still a DS, so why doesn't CSC wear some yellow too?

As someone who serves a younger patient population I think the LAF is a great organization and does some great things. How my comment about yellow on a pro jersey was construed as minimizing cancer is beyond me, but it certainly wasn't intended that way.

But it may be a stretch (NPI) to compare fluffly/loose plumage to skin tight jerseys.

I know in 100-115F (shade temp) in full intense sun that I can feel the black trim on my white jersey 'burning' my skin.

Valverde won the ProTour in that black kit.... wait.... no. He was wearing solid white virtually all year as leader of the ProTour.

Never mind.

I think there have been some studies on black fabrics vs white showing that black is cooler, but those dealt with nomadic arab garb in the sahara, where having it be 105 inside your clothes is cooler than outside.

Anyway, I suspect that with the wind chill factor, the difference isn't huge. On really hot days it's the heat radiating up from the pavement that gets me.

PS - the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon jersey is fine on hot days if you're riding and not standing around.

I like the new jersey. It sets them apart from the other blues. The shorts (unchanged from last year?) don't seem to match that well, though.

The predictor kit isn't actually that bad. They could have done a lot worse. Just check out Predictor's website: http://www.predictor.co.uk/PredictorFrameset.html

I'm not sure if I like the planet but whenyour main sponser is the Discovery Channel you should expect that. Black clothing will transfer radiant heat better. So, it is cooler if you have a cloudy day and cool surroundings, hotter on a sunny day.
