Shimano Flightdeck

Has Shimano stopped making these? Or are they introducing a new model? A lot of the major mail order places (Nashbar, PBK, performance) don't carry them any more. I asked at my favorite LBS and they haven't had any in months either. I know that I can still find one, but if they are coming out with a new version I would wait.

They are kind of overpriced. I would not be surprised if they just gave up on them.

Your LBS can special order it from Quality Bike Parts no problem. Just tell them which shifters you have and they will get the right mount for you.
It would be neat if they came out with a new one though.
I do like mine, its new this fall.
My main complaint is the auto sleep feature. In order to wake the unit up you have to push a button underneath and the only way to push the button in far enough to wake the unit is to use a little pointy tool since the rubber button wiggles sideways and doesn't engage when you just use your fingernail.

jenson's got 'em... around $100 or so I think for the wireless kit and the computer... I like mine a lot.. works flawlessly.

edit: i don't have problems pushing the buttons in the back although others do.

i recently purchased a flightdeck for my bike and wasn't too expensive.

i bought the older computer 6501 as opposed to the 6502 because i don't have a 10-speed and it only cost my $15 including shipping for a brand new one.

i opted for the wired harness this time because I wasn't too sure about the wireless because of some unsatisfactory posts about wireless units here and there. the harness was about $35.
i could have opted for the wireless for about $60-70.

One wonders why other manufacturers have included the Flightdeck features in their computers. After all, the only novel feature is the gear indicator.

Bet Shimano wants an arm and a leg to license the interface...

Thanks for the tip. It worked great. Isn't it amazing how little glitches like that can drive you crazy?:)

I've had an older 9-sp flight deck on my old bike for ~5 yrs now, no problems, great computer. So I wanted another one for the kestrel I bougth this summer (10 speed). There was no way I was paying their suggested retail for a computer, though, might as well just pony up and get a garmin edge.

Some long, diligent ebay watching and I scored the 10-speed computer and wireless wiring harness, brand new, for ~$50 shipped.
