Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Moab Skinny Tire Festival

Four days of cycling in beautiful Canyonlands of Southern Utah, March 2-5. Need a bike fix in the winter?

I took this picture last year, this is one of the rides in this festival, Arches National Park

What's the temperature like at that time of year down there?

I've come down the main road from near Balanced Rock after coming into the park from the old road - a PERMISSIBLE mountain bike route.

I'm tempted too. I was there over the summer with the whole family, but without a bike. It was HOT.

My wife would be willing too, but I'd need to do something with the kids. It would be a long weekend away.

I'm pretty bummed right now. The wife and I signed up for the 2007 Skinny Tire Festival last August, paid our fees, made hotel reservations, and even charted a path for our fund-raising efforts. Then the Air Force decides to surprise us both with deployments this winter/spring. I guess we'll have to wait until 2008!

I've spent alot of time in Moab. It was before I became a roadie, so I've never done any real rides there. It is absolutely beautiful! And the Skinny Tire Festival has a reputation for being one of the best events around. Four days of glorious riding!

This is an event not to be missed...

Bryan

The last two years temps are 55 -60. Rides start in the mornings and are cool, a light wind breaker or arm warmer that are peeled off as it warms and the climbing starts.
