External bottom bracket cross compatability?
Does anyone know if external bottom brackets are cross compatable? For example using a Ultegra BB on a SRAM crank, or a FSA bracket on a Shimano crank.
The reason I am wondering is because several people have noted that the SRAM GXP bracket has alot of friction, since I plan on buing rival soon just wondering I switching would be possible.

No, not generally - today, the big players all use their own proprietary BB's and cranks. But obviously, most cranks that connect to a square tapered axle are compatible with any square tapered BB (although even then, there are two square taper standard sizes) and the same applies for ISIS splined.
More information than you ever wanted to know can be found here: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/bbsize.html

I have seen several articles stating that they use the same bearings, but did not see if the entire bracket was cross compatable.

the fsa are compatible with shimano. i think the sram are as well. i've heard from shop mechanics that the fsa's suck and wear out quickly.

FSA is compatible with Shimano. Neither is compatible with SRAM/Truvativ.

Voltman has it right re: SRAM/Truvativ. They use a smaller diameter on the non-drive side.
