Brake pad question
In my quest to know everything there is to know about bikes I'm getting down to the really irrelevant stuff, like...whats the deal with that little wing thingy that hangs off the bottom of many road brake pads?

Fingergrips, you can pull pads up to the rim easier, for adjusting cables or when replacing wheel.

they are tire guides. there is an adjustable screw in the middle. they help prevent rim or pad damage when removing or installing the wheel.

And if they were intended as finger grips, why would they be designed to stick into your hand?

I can't get my hand up there, just my fingers, I must have the cheap ones too, mine weren't sharpened.

1. leave them on for improved aerodynamics
2. File them off to lose a few grams
