Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

06 Giant OCR Composite 2 price

A local LBS is selling a 06 Giant OCR Composite 2 for $1700. Theyre throwing in some cheap pedals so that will save me another $100 dollars. Does this sound like a decent price for a closeout sale on this bike? Thanks.

It all depends. Are you willing to buy online? I picked up an 06 TRC C2 for $1540 (inc S&H) on Ebay. If you dont want to deal w/online purchasing, then that might be your best deal for your area. FWIW.

You might be able to do a bit better. A bike shop near me is selling them for $1600. For $100, you can buy almost any pedal you want.

How about a Look Keo HM carbon titanium spindle pedal? Or the HM pedal with the cro moly spindle? Or a Speedplay Zero team issue?

Let me know where I can get this for a hundred dollars and it's not from Johnny Bagadonuts on the corner that also sell Rolex watches.

There are versions of both of these pedals for less than $100.

If you are willing to be a bit creative, you can find an even better deal.

There are injected carbon and HM carbon. You have provided the injected carbon. I asked about the HM carbon.
They are not the same at all.

And the Speedplays are used pedals.

But thanks for trying.

I won't get into the whole LBS vs online debate, but I've seen several 06's and '05 OCR C2's go for much less on eBay (all new in box). I got my '05 for $1170 about a month or so ago.

$1700 was the best price I got (at lbs) when I was looking for a new bike.

I just bought a 2006 TCR C2 new, on ebay, for $1425. Now, that is the "new" but no warranty ebay deal, no LBS suuport, etc., so $1700 from your LBS with a warranty, pedals, no shipping, no worries about whether you are getting scee-rude, sounds pretty decent to me! What the heck, it's only worthless money, and the price of the bike is actually the cheapest part of this whole deal....

FWIW, I just purchased a TCR 2 on eBay for $1180 on the 21 of Dec. I thought it was used but once I got it I couldn't find a blem or evidence of wear anywhere.

eBay is a huge risk and you have to ask yourself if it is worth it. I got very lucky. The seller had it professionally broke-down and packaged. He even refunded me a shipping overage of $22.

There are still good people out there.

I think my LBS had it for the same price in November and an LBS in Herndon, VA (I was there for training) had it for $100 less. My LBS told me there was wiggle room as well. I would say that it is a decent price, but you might be able to get them to go lower.

Most LBS that I talked to all offered to toss in low end SPD pedals for free with a bike in that price range.

To the above posts - I think it was very clear that the $100 pedal comment was simply saying that can get any number of decent pedals for the $100 he talked about saving. This is true - there are plenty of quality pedals in that range.

I would think you could get it an extra $100-$200 less than what they were asking.

Kokomo61 - If that is your TCR C2 pictured in your sig then it is actually an '04 or earlier. '05 paint job on a TCR C2 looks like this <sorry not a good shot - On trainer>:

Mine's an OCR, not a TCR.....'05 was dark blue, and it switched to a lighter blue in '06.

Gotcha. Thought for some reason that the OCRs went to the same cross hatch decal/graphic the same year as the TCRs did.

It's a steal at $1,200. Now spend 10 on a cassette lockring tool and take that dork disk off.

My LBS has a '06 Giant TCR C2 (same MSRP as the OCR C2, I believe) that they offered me for $1500. However, I think I am going with the '06 Fuji Team Pro.

instead of spending 10 bucks, just get a scissor and cut it off for free, if it's plastic, use a hammer

You know, I even asked about that thing. My best friend and cycling mentor told me to leave the "dork disc" on.... Me thinks he just wanted to see me get laughed at or something.

It will die momentarily.
