Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I use the Specialized BG PRO CARBON ROAD SHOE. I picked up a pair at my LBS for about $150 recently. My old Specialized shoes were looking pretty ratty and the velcro was getting kind of weak.

I like the Specialized shoes because they fit my feet well and I don't get hot spots or numbness even when riding a century.

I would never buy cycling shoes (or any shoe for that matter) online unless you know the brand and how they fit your feet.

I rarely go for top of the line when it comes to apparel. The reason is that much of the high cost has to do with fashion/looks and I tend to go for performance value. In this regard, Sidi Genius's are way overpriced. The best shoes on the market right now is 06 Diadora Proracer. It has carbon soles, ultra lightness, superior materials, and an adjustable fastener(like Sidi G's). I got mine for 80 bucks on ebay + 8 bucks for shipping and handling.

Those Diadoras are some nice looking shoes, but they are $200 dollar shoes and that is top of the line territory. Finding a bargain on Ebay in your size is a lucky find, but usually the extreme small and large sizes of most products can be found for great prices.

So they are as much a high cost, high fashion shoe as all the others we're talking about in here. We've all scored great deals on Ebay but you can never then use that price as a baseline to compare against all other options. Its no good saying why buy a $150 shoe when I just got these for $80 on Ebay. Perhaps the Genius 5 is overpriced, but for the fit and comfort they provide many its worth every penny. Given the retail price option I would think the Diadora is also a better choice, if its fits a specific foot just as well.

From the Ebay listing "The Diadora Proracer Carbon road shoe is the top of the line road shoe offered by Diadora."

Plus, with a teeny tiny size 40 foot, road shoes on Ebay are usually cheap as barely anyone else can use them.
I see these in either small sizes or big sizes, nothing in the middle on ebay. So if you have small feet or big feet, ebay is always a good choice. For those who are interested, the proracers wear kind of big. I bought the 42 in the black ones and had to keep it.

I run the specialized BG comps. Plastic soles but plenty stiff. Mighty comfy too.
