The "Dirty 90's": Did Indurain cheat?

Jonathan Vaughters is very adamant in the November Pro Cycling that pro peloton was at it's most tainted in the 1990's with the whole Festina thing and even worse dope-testing then than now.

Miguel Indurain was an above average rider in earlier in his career, than he became unbeatable as he neared 30 years old. Do you think that he may have had a "candy craving"?:(

Why do you look at cycling like a teenage girl or a bored housewife looks at supermarket tabloids.

Indurain also lost a fair amount of weight from his early days, to the TDF champion days, and in his first tours he was riding support for Delgado.

That being said, before there was an effctive test for EPO, or even hematacrit level testing, I'm sure a lot of interesting things were going on. Whether they involved Indurain is anybody's guess.

why do you bother being a member of a forum if you criticize someone that wants to discuss something?

Well I am sorry if you feel this way, but look at my previous posts, and look at the op's previous posts and then you make the call.

DocRay 01-08-07 01:50 PM

There was no EPO back then, but other enhancers were commonplace.
Kind of a pointless discussion, but I don't think cycling has been clean ever.
As for being unbeatable at 30, what does that say for Armstrong at 37?

I like pie.

There was epo back then and Lance isn't 37.

Because the OP has a tendency to want to discuss the most inane topics imaginable.

EPO's bee available for a while:

"Erythropoietin (EPO) is found naturally in the human body and has been commercially available as recombinant human EPO (rEPO) for almost 20 years"

Current Sports Medicine Reports Aug 2005

And Indurain was 27 when he smoked Lemond in the Pyranees.

"The "Dirty 90's": Did Indurain cheat?"

Why discuss questions that cannot be answered?
Any why discuss anything with someone who lacks anything interesting to say?

Namenda 01-08-07 02:54 PM

This is one of those "feel the love" moments, isn't it?

Indurain rode in support for Delgado for a few years as well, Delgado tested positive for a steroid masking agent, and his rumored nickname was "testo" in the peleton anyways.. I think I read somewhere where in made enough vauge statements in a interview to say "i did what i had to do etc.." so Yeah, Delgado had medical help. Does that mean his #1 Domestique, and eventual Spanish successor do the same? who knows... But it's not a stretch to think so...

classic1 01-08-07 04:29 PM

Delgado also used to make comments like 'PDM taught me how to prepare' etc
