So, to answer your question, no, I don't know specifically who it was. Doubtful that "Tech" is someone's actual name! :)

I actually do my best to make my mind wander off. Watching LOTR helps, though it's a little creepy "coming to" after a scene and not remember if you were even pedalling....

But, I am really interested in that Fan resistance thing. It looks like it would probably work on any trainer, so that would really make it moot.

munkyv22, so have you cut the steerer yet? What size is your Madone 58 or 60? Any problems with that much drop? You look to have about the same seat height as I do, but a lot more drop.

ah good point. I am still running stock tape(black) and saddle (black). Saddle may be changed out eventually, after 750 km it still isn't the greatest IMHO. I was thinking maybe an Arione somewhere down there line :D

to the op, don't cut your steerer, get a stem with a steeper angle, 17deg is usualy the steepest, it will allow you to use more more of the steerer and keep your bars at the same level, thus you'll have to cut less of teh steere off, which is good, trust me. You never know what your position is going to be a year from now, it could be much lower, or you could develope really bad back pain and need your bars higher, or you might want to sell the bike and go to something different, in which case the longer the steerer the greater base of buyers the bike will appeal to.

My significant other got a trainer to use this winter. I knew it wasn't going to get any use, but she went and got it anyway. She used it three times right when we first got it, and has never use dit since. Me, I earnestly tried to use it several times, but I cannot get over the fact that I'm subjecting my frame to unintended forces. That, and the accelerated tire wear, and I absolutely detest the thing... Knowing that rollers alleviate both of these problems, I borrowed my neighbor's Minoura rollers, which he's had for 15+ years. A little rust and dust on the frame, but the thing glides like new. I absolutely love it and plan on getting me a set just as soon as I surpass my threshold of resistance to spending more. I spent the absolute most I've ever spent on cycling this year

If and when I do get a set, here's the thing that I don't ever see happening though. I could never see myself planting it right in front of the TV in the living room, where it would be most ideal to have it. I'll have to set up in a doorway or hallwall, which is no fun scenically. So, what do you guys do? What do you use to start and stop, and protect yourself from falling over when you zone out for a second? Or do you just become very good at it after a while and no longer need the security doorway at all, and a milk crate or two is more than enough?

munkyv22, if you planted your Madone in a trainer before you got your rollers, how did you feel about it in terms of messing up your bike?

Don't hold your breath. I called last year as well. Basically none of the accessories for their rollers are available, or ever will be.

Luckily roller accessories generally seem generic. For example the killer headwind seems to connect via a belt off the front roller. It should be workable with any rollers.

Indeed, it would seem most manufacturer's use roughly the same size steel tubing for their roller frames, the exception being kreitler. Alu frames vary quite a bit more i think.

I'm waitting for my nashbar's to arrive, but assuming the tubing width is rougly the same i worked out where i'd have to drill the 2 attachment holes for my tacx mag unit so i could use the same belt.

This is just calculated though, these values might change slightly when i actually start putting things together.
One thing to note, that the value 393 or 395mm is the stretched value of the small (355mm) tacx speedmatic belt. The whole reason i did all this work is so that i could use the default belt that comes with the mag unit, however you could also use a 15.5" micro V belt, which can usualy be special ordered from a belt supplier (check any local industrial park) for around 5$.
