Any experience with Cane Creek brakes?
Does anybody have any experience with the Cane Creek SCR-5 brakeset? Certainly less expensive than Dura Ace, weighs about the same, both double pivot, and they certainly look good. Is the braking performance/power comparable? or......

A buddy of mine has those brakes and loves them. They actually looked better in person than they did from the catalog.
BTW - I got a brand new DA brakeset from eBay for cheap - you may want to look there real quick before you do anything. I don't think you can go wrong with either personally.

change the pads and they rock.
they were my back-up set before my ultegra front caliper died in a crash. now i don't think i could justify paying the extra for a new ultegra front.

I have heard they are re-badged Tektros. If this is the case, then they should be fine after changing the pads to KoolStops or equivalent.

They are exactly rebadged Tektro Model RX40 (this is even stamped on the back of the Cane Creek models). However, the big difference is they put all stainless hardware on for Cane Creek. I also don't think that Tektro offers a model as polished as they produce for Cane Creek. In short, they are fine brakes and have what EVERY component not in a Walmart should have at a minimum - stainless hardware.
There is also the SCR-5S, single pivot version. I have a pair of these in mirrored silver finish that I replaced the black cartridge pad holders with matching silver ones for some real shiney bling, and at some point they are going on Ebay.

Rebadged Tektros or not, they are terrific in form and function. I've got a pair of black SCR-5's on my Fondriest Carb Level (it's only non-italian components) and can stop on a dime with whatever stock pads they come with. I've also got a pair of black SCR-3's mounted on a nearly finished Viner Evolution. Not sure what the difference is (reach, I think...) since I just got'em and haven't had the bikes side-by-side to compare yet.

Thanks, guys, for the input. It's really helpful.
BTW, the SCR-5's I have came with Kool Stop pads (grey).
