Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My bike fits just fine in the back of my 4D VW Passat with the rear seats folded down. I've even gotten two to fit, but I don't recommend it. I'd love to get a roof rack, but we park in a garage and I know eventually I'd forget to take the bikes off before pulling in. I shudder at the thought of bent Ti.

I use a 1995 Honda Odyssey, and all I do is remove the front wheel, clamp the fork into a fork block mounted to a 2X4, and slide it in backwards between the two second row seats.(This is with the third row folded flat.) I even secure the front wheel with a third row seatbelt with the wheel cradled between the board and seat hinge.(Useless without pics).

With your staff car, you should be able to haul it all in the trunk, just remove both wheels. The trunk on a Grand Marquis and Crown Victoria is huge, you could even carry a spare bike.

60 cm frame Cannondale fits my 2006 Passat with the backseat folded down. I do take the front wheel off and cover my bike with a bath towel before placing the front wheel on top. There are two compartments on each side of the truck that fits a helmet and shoes nicely. The bike stay clean, secure and well protected from my driving.

This is my old car with a hitch mount. I could put my bike inside the New Beetle if i take both wheels off.

With my 2003 Honda Odyssey and I can put my bike in without even folding down a seat. I take the front wheel off and the frame in the back diagonally, with one drop bar hooked over the rear bench seat.

+1 on the Passat, I take the front wheel off on mine. Didn't fit in my '97 Chrysler Sebring, bought this one because I like having it locked inside the car.

Are the bikes standing upright or laying on top of each other?

2003 Mazda 3 Sedan:
Can fit *2* bikes with the seats folded down and some planning.
I was thinking of a roof rack, but I'm single and I don't want to forget a bike on the roof when I go into the garage.

I looked at the Prius Hybrid yesterday at the Detroit Auto Show. With back seats down, it looks like it was made for cradling a bike with both wheels on.

While there are mixed thoughts about hybrids ... The Toyota Prius Hybrid sells for 23K ... gets 51 MPG on the highway ... and gets 60 MPG in the city.

I know this is an old thread, but I'll add just in case someone is searching for information.
I have a 2003 camry and a 55cm flat bar road bike that will fit into the trunk. Both wheels must come off though.

With a Saturn Vue, I can lay the rear seats down, put the bike in, flip the front wheel sideways and it goes between the front and rear seats, no problem. I can also fit my reverse trike in the Vue, but it takes a bit more doing.

I have the Protege 5 also and was putting my seats down to transport, but I never had to take off my front wheel. I had a hard time finding a rack for the Protege 5, but I was on chainlove at the right time and they had a INNO roof rack for $69.95 and it fit perfectly.

I was able to fit my Soloist Team inside my MR2 Spyder last week by removing the passenger seat from the car and both wheels and the seatpost from the bike.

You can fit a bike in almost anything; you just have to want it bad enough.

Geez man, removing the pasenger seat! sounds like a lot of work there.
Anyway, to the OP, my reasons for keeping the bike inside is that I do a lot of errands during the day, then ride. I don't like leaving the bike outside while in doing shopping. I am hoping a bike can fit inside the trunk of a 2009 corolla though.

I can fit like 30 bikes in the bed of my Chevy truck. I can securely fit 2 in the extended cab.

For my solo rides, took off the pax seat from my other convertible, no mother-in-law, yes bike.

Less weight = saves gas.

I expect it will fit easily if you remove the front wheel and fold the back seat down.

Is this seriously thread worthy? How hard is it to figure out how to put a bike inside a car? This forum surprises me sometimes.

I have a 2006 Mazda 6 5-door. It looks like a sedan, but is a hatchback. With the bacls seats folded down and the over-the-trunk cover removed, the road bike or the mountain bike fit it without taking anything off. I throw a few blankets under the bike to protect everything, but the bike fits no problem.

my bike is in the trunk of my Camry right now, that's where it lives 99% of the time. it's out of the way for parking (I park in a big underground garage) or theft, & besides, you never know when a bike ride might break out.

I take off the wheels & put in the frame, then the back wheel, then the front. I might be able to get another bike in there if I really tried, I don't know.

when I take buddies, I have a hitch rack.
