Need help with new stem

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Need help with new stem

I am looking for stem suggestions that will shorten my reach and raise my handlebars. The stock stem is 120mm and is adjustable, but it is at its max amount of rise at the moment. My seat fore/aft is in its correct position which is located with the seat about as far forward as one would want to move it. So, I'm at stem buying time. The LBS didn't have anything in stock that would remedy the problem due to the 31.8 measurement where the stem fits to the bars.

If I read the specs of my bike properly, it's 1-1/8", threadless, and 31.8 where the stem clamps onto the bars. The 31.8 is kind of a new standard from what I understand. I'm looking for a stem that will raise my bars by 1-2 inches and be about 1-2 shorter than my stock120mm stem. Any suggestions on brands/models/sizes and where to buy appreciated.

My bike is a 2003 Specialized Allez Elite (steel version).

Thanks In Advance

Try getting a 90mm stem. Only one brand I can thik of that makes an adjustablt road stem is Kalloy. It sounds like your bike is too big for you.

Call around. I know there are many in the market with a high rise.

It all depends on the rise you want.

You may have to go to a 26.0 bar to get more options.
