The alternative

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The alternative

What alternative sport would you enter as dedicated as this one if cycling were no longer an option?

Golf. That's what I did before cycling. Not enough hours in the day to do both though.

Skiing . only there'd be two problems.

1. i couldn't afford tickets/season pass

2. the nearest mountain to where i spend most of the winter is about a 8+ hour drive away.

or maybe cross country skiing, but the nearest snow would be a 3+ hour drive, or none at all the way winter has been going.
