Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So it looks like im getting a dawes and....

yeah unless my LBS gets something used for around 350 then looks like im getting a BD dawes. not the best bike but i guess it will do for a starter bike..

now the question.... ive searched the net but couldent find any decals or anything like that for road bikes... anyone know where i can get some??

maybe like a set that changes the look of the bike?

i used to ride motorcycles and i customized it myself and was just wondering if they made these for road bikes as well??

I just ordered a Mercier Galaxy Al. Its all sora as opposed to the 2200 thats on the dawes. It was $299 + $40 shipping from sprtymama on ebay. Ill post my thoughts when it shows up tomorrow.

As for the decals, if you want something custom you could talk to your local vinyl/sign making shop.

Well if you get the latest addition of Velonews there is an ad for Litespeed that has a sticker set included. It comes with a down tube sticker that wraps around and a couple of seat tube stickers. The stickers have a CF look and something in Italian written on them that sounds cool. Then under that is says something about mediocrity. The whole thing is pretty funny and I am thinking of putting them on my IRO fixie once it gets here.

I got the Mercier. I havent had a chance to ride it any further than around the block but I think it was worth every penny. The Finish and materials are much better than I was anticipating. And the color is better looking than the pictures on the website conveyed. I dont think im going to have to make many adjustments too it either, it shifts really well out of the box. I will be taking the wheels to my LBS to be properly tensioned, but thats only so that I know they stay straight. I definitely feel like it was money well spent. We'll see how it holds up.

Are you going to wait for the popping to stop before you go to the LBS?

I dont really know anything about the dawes. On paper I thought the mercier was a better deal. The dawes has 2200 derailleurs as opposed to the sora thats on the mercier (2200 is one step down from Sora). As far as frames go, the mercier is kinesis 7005 frame. I did a search on the internet for the Altair 1 that the dawes is made of and the only things that came up were a bunch of Fuji bikes. So it must be some fuji proprietary frame marketing. I took a closer look at Fujis website too, the dawes looks almost exactly like the Fuji Newest 4.0, all the specs are the same too. https://www.fujibikes.com/2007/bikes.asp?id=279&subcat=
