Incorect eBay listing. Should I do anything about it?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Incorect eBay listing. Should I do anything about it?

Hi all,

I noticed an ambigious eBay listing for some 24" Velocity deep V rims a few days ago just before the auction ended but no specific size on them which is required for 24" rims so I sent the seller a message through eBay. He got back to me after the listing ended saying he still had them but he didn't know what the ISO size for the rims was. A few messages went back and forth and I sent him a link to Sheldon Brown's page on the subject so he could understand the breadth of the issue but I didn't hear back from him after that.

From what I can work out they are actualy ISO 559 Velocity Deep V Mtn rims, 36 hole which velocity have made to suit the Continental Grand Prix 26x1" tires (ISO 559) and guess what? Those tires mounted on those rims have a diameter of precisely 24" (OK give or take a mm).

Anyway eBay sent me an auto notification that he has listed them again, without any revision. He's still calling them 24" Velocity deep V rims!

I don't think he's going to sell them. He want's to much for them anyway but should I notify eBay that there may be an error in the listing just in case someone buy's them and there is the obligitory dispute or should I let it go. There's no point in me messaging the seller again.

Any thoughts? Am I just having a whinge over nothing?

Regards, Anthony

I e-mailed the seller of this item and they still didn't edit it:
Look CX-7 TI pedals:

(these obviously aren't the titanium version; what a rip).

That's where the buyer part of "buyer beware" comes in.

Good of you to try to sort him out, though.

Thanks all.

I guess thats a vote for leave it alone. I don't think he's going to sell them anyway and the real irony of all this is if he did list them with the correct size I think he would have a better chance of selling them.

Regards, Anthony

People scour ebay for mis-labeled or misspelled items to buy cheap and resell for a profit. Happens all the time. If they don't sell, he'll either give up to re-list them (hopefully with better information). Some lessons in life are hard.

You did your part by contacting the lister and E-Bay would not get into a argument over semantics and your e-mail would go nowhere with them.

Leave it to a potential buyer to ask the same question before they bid. But if you feel compelled then by all means do so. I just think it will go upon deaf ears.
