Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Giordana bib shorts sizing question

I'm looking at ordering some Giordana bibs and I'm not finding consistent sizing info. It sounds like they run small but Competitive Cyclist says 33-34" waist = XL! The Gita Bikes site seems to indicate I'd be a Large.

If anyone here has some of their bibs, could you give me an idea of what size I might need? I'm 5' 9.5", 148 lbs. I wear L in Assos which are a little big but the M size shoulder straps are too short. I wear M in Pearl Izumi bibs which are pretty much perfect size wise.

I'm thinking I need L in the Giordana but any first hand recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

I think a L will fit you well. I bought a pair of XL Giordana Tenax when I first started biking last year, at 6'0" and 183. Suprisingly, they still fit okay (I'm not swimming in them) now that I'm down to 158. But I'm a L now in Giordana (and, like you, a M in Pearl). It's possible you could be a M in Giordana, but I'd say L... and no way you are an XL.

I'm pretty close to you and size, have had the same fit comment about PI bibs and just got through byuying a set of Giordana bibs...I ended up being well pleased with the L fit in the Giordana and the medium was definitely too tight. I would definitely say they run smaller than the PI's.

Hope this helps.

I have a pair of S and M in the Giordana and both are very tight. I'm 6'1" and 155lbs. I'll have to try a large.

I own one of the Giordana Body Clone bibs and another of their standard bibs as part of my team kit. Both are L. I'm maybe a hair taller than 6' and weigh ~ 160 lbs, waist betw/ 32-33". The XL's were too big. I don't know about CompetitiveCyclist's sizing, but GitaBike (the distributor for Giordana) says a waist of 32-36" is a size L, and that works for me. At your waist range, the L should fit you in the body. If anything, at your height the shoulder straps *might* be a little loose, but I doubt it.

Let us know how this works out.

I just received my Giordana Tenax Windfront Jacket and it is beautiful! But, I ordered a Large where I normally wear Medium in Pearl. The fit is good until I fully extend my arms and then it gets _very_ tight in the shoulders. I have a 38" chest and have deep shoulder but not particularly large. I'm tempted to order an XL but I suspect it will be huge.

All that to say - I want to order a pair of bibs but am worried about Giordana's sizing. I am sure Medium is too small but Large may be too large. The service rep at Competitive Cyclist (Andy?) said the fit should be the same as Pearl. So far that has proven incorrect.

I am 5' 9" and 160lbs. 31/32" waist

Cheers,
Doc

I'm 5'9", 158lbs with a 32-33" waist. I tried on both Medium and Large and ended up getting the Medium.

It'd probably work out either way, but i'd suggest the Medium, especially since you're smaller than me.

Man we need a size database for all this stuff. It would make it much easier. Had to email Gore to get one because there is nothing on their web site.

36-38" waist

Im 6'1" with a 36-38 waist weighing in at 213lbs. I have Large Forma bibs, Tenax Windfront Bib Tights. The Forma Bibs stretch nicely and have a bit of elasticity to them and the Tenax tight tend to be on the tight side but thats the way i like them. I also have a Large Pearl Izumi Areosensor Bibs which also not as "compressive" as I'd like them and feel a bit loose, but hey i cant complain, i got them free!!

I am 6'0" 178 lbs. I got the XXL Giordana bibs, they are a bit short in the straps, but otherwise fit me. They are not as tight were the Assos XLG that I had to return.

Got mine from STP, which has some great prices on Giordana.

Note also that CC has some winter Giordana marked down:

I'm looking for Giordana bib knickers - we got 13 inches of snow last week.

Unfortunately, none of the LBS carry Giordana and the rest of the world seems to think it is summer :-)

As I mentioned above, CC has winter Giordana stuff priced to move, including winter bibs.

You can find the Giordana Bib Knickers at gitabike.com, bikesomewhere.com, or competitivecyclist.com.

5'10" 155lbs (31" waist) and I take a medium in all Giordana

i personally think the straps on the medium may be a bit snug. i'm 5'7", 190#, and i have 2 mediums because the leg fits perfect. the straps are a bit snug, but it doesn't bother me enough to go up a size just for that, but i don't know if i could say they wouldn't bother you being almost 3" taller...

if you went with the tenax lasers, i would say just go with the large, because the material doesn't stretch as much and the straps and legs fit me like a glove. they're hard to find now though...

Thanks Nacho.

Gita is outrageously expensive, Bikesomewhere is on my "avoid" list, and Competitive has only smalls for both knickers and tights. Guess I'll be going with Pearl until next autumn.
