Opinion on Vredestein Fortezza SE

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Opinion on Vredestein Fortezza SE

Got a big cut on my rear Michelin Krylions and bought Vredestein Fortezza SE from my Performance store since Krylions and Conti GP4000 were sold out. These were only $25 on sale. What do you think of these tires. Rode it first time today and did not note too much of a difference compared to GP4000 or Krylions. I have a Krylion in front. These have a little surface thread while the Krylions are slick but these can be run at higher pressure, up to 160 psi so that may compensate for any rolling resistance.

I have a set on my race bike (although not to be used as my race tires) and use them all the time for training and commuting. They're great value for the money, look great, and handle exceptionally (at least in my opinion). At 260grams they're not the lightest in the pack, but I wouldn't think them to be poor either.

They have a really nice road feel (by my standards) and instill a lot of confidence in me while cornering and such.

I did get a nasty cut in the sidewall of one of them last summer on my way home from work one evening, but that was due to me being overly confident and somewhat reckless while riding through a rough section of the road shoulder adjacent a construction site. Could've happened to any tire. In fact, sticking a Park Tire Boot in there fixed it right up and I've put lots of miles on it since (and will continue racking them up).

I actually just ordered another one from Performance today.

I run Vredestein Fortezza ROAD/RACE tires and they're great. Great all-rounder tires with good grip, low rolling resistance and excelent sturdiness/puncture resistence. The SE model isn't everyones favorite however and your experience may be more hit and miss.

Mindyou you've bought them already so see how you go.

Regards, Anthony

I used to ride these. Got 2 flats in 3 rides. Changed to brand new tire, got another flat after 2 rides. I now use them to burn away rubber on my Cycleops. (I hope I don't flat there too).

I noticed they get cut up pretty fast, but they rode good.

I have stockpiled some Conti GP3000's and ride them on most of my wheelsets. I bought and installed a set of Fortezza's (blue at the Performance sale last year) on my fixie. Based on my less than discriminating arse, they're equal to the GP3000's, the durability is a notch below, but the price made up for it.

Mine haven't given me any problems in the 500 or so miles I have ridden on them, and I like the way they ride and handle.

I've gone through a couple of sets of them. I thought they were an excellent value, rode nice, good longevity and I got very few flats. Only reason I didn't get them again is I could only find the blue ones in the $25 range so I switched to the $26 Pro Race II's from pbk.

no flats in 700 miles or so. I like that they take higher psi than most clinchers.
