Where are you going this year?

Where are your races, rides, other cycling events this year? Are you cycling locally (where's "locally" for you?) ... or will you be travelling to other parts of your country or the world to ride?

I'll be off to Vancouver Island in about 6 weeks for my first cycling event, and then hopefully Europe in August. The rest of my cycling will likely be relatively local ... various places in Alberta.

Round and Round and Round and Round. Next month I am trying track cycling for the first time at the velodrome in Houston, wish me luck.

You're not kidding when you say round and round and round!! Good luck with that!! :)

I plan to ride locally as much as possible in Lethbridge and when I get the chance the mountains just outside Calgary (Highwood Pass etc.). Since Discovery didn't invite me to any training camps I figured I'd head out to Vancouver Island this summer and skip out on the conference I'm supposed to be at...

DanteB 02-12-07 10:41 PM

I'll be doing doubles and triples in the Southern California area. Most of these rides are within 3 hours of my home.

Do you have any interest in long distance cycling? If you're a racer, the events can be good for base mileage.

I'm riding from SF to LA in june with aids/lifecycle. It'll be my first long-distance-anything ride.

Down to North Carolina for the Assault on Mt. Mitchell.

For vacation this year, we're driving up to the Adirondacks and Vermont - I'm taking my bike with me.....

Namenda 02-13-07 06:00 AM

I'm going to Disney in August. Don't think I'll bring a bike...too much hassle. Maybe rent one.

castaway 02-13-07 06:37 AM

Utsukushigahara, Odaigahara, Norikura...all those well-known ones.;)
I'd love to do something in the US when I'm there in August.

GuitarWizard 02-13-07 07:06 AM

Ummm.....a few races are marked on the calendar, as well as perhaps an organized century or two....other than that, just riding around. I wanted to do LOTOJA, but that's not in the budget for this year. At some point, I'd also like to do the Everest Challenge, and Assault on Mt. Mitchell.

knobster 02-13-07 07:11 AM

The wife and I ride together and this year we're doing a little traveling. Our first century of the year is the 3 state, 3 mountain in Tenn. We're also going to Vermont for some riding as well. We still do quite a lot of riding locally, but are looking to venture out and see a little more of the world from two wheels. Makes life more interesting.

DXchulo 02-13-07 07:12 AM

I'm going to Mississippi in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to the warmer weather.

Other than that, I live in Ohio for now and I'll be moving back to Indiana in May. I'll stay there at least until August. I'll be doing a couple brevets in Ohio while I'm living in Indiana, but that's not very exciting travel since I live in Ohio right now, is it?

If all goes well I'll be making a major move to somewhere warm at the end of the year. Should be a good year.

cc_rider 02-13-07 07:13 AM

Mostly local, which means southern Pennsylvania to central Virginia, Delaware to Shennandoah Valley
One or two trips to New York.
Northern Illinois (will rent a bike, will see if weather cooperates)
And probably Ohio, but I'm not sure if I'll have my bike with me, or will have time for a ride.

SaabFan 02-13-07 07:30 AM

All somewhat local, probably nothing more than 3 hours' drive away. Biking's not #1 on my priority list, so there's plenty in the immediate area to keep me busy.

GuitarWizard 02-13-07 07:32 AM

See, I knew you were a triathlete :D

shapelike 02-13-07 07:34 AM

I'm going to Paris-Roubaix. :) We've got 10 days in Europe, so hopefully we can check out a couple of the classics and find some cheap rental bikes to boot around on.

:roflmao: Touche!

That said, about half of the events I'm planning on participating in this year are NOT multisport or TT. So there!

This year my wife and I plan on doing the usual and riding our little butts off in the Hamilton/Niagara Region. We hope to do a couple Ride for Heart rides, on in Niagara on the Lake and one in St. Catharines. Besides those two we have nothing else locally planned. We'd like to find a couple more organized events to do and hope to break last season's record of 7 metric centuries...I think it's doable...

The highlight of the year will come early when we head to Rome, Georgia for the Up the Creek Without a Pedal event. We went down there last summer for about a week and met some wonderful people from the Coosa Valley Cycling Club that welcomed us in like we were long lost friends. We plan on making the Rome trip a yearly thing if possible. Next year we hope to add in the Chattanooga/Cleveland Tennessee area as a stop. We did that last year and had a great time riding the local roads there. We won't have time this year to stop there and ride however. We will stop since my wife has family, but only long enough to say hi and to mooch some food.

I live and mostly ride in the Greater New York City metro area (which basically means getting the hell out of NYC as quickly as possible and riding in Rockland or Westchester County, & Northern New Jersey). Just got back from a 5 day cycling vacation in Tucson AZ; that was seriously *sweet*!!!

Aside from a long weekend up at West Point NY this coming July, I don't have any other out-of-town riding events planned for this year. However, for next year we've already planned

- a return to Tuscon AZ (did I mention that was seriously *sweet*?)
- riding in the Anchorage AK area as part of a 2 week land/sea vacation

snowy 02-13-07 10:57 AM

I'm going to Paris in April. Would like to rent some bikes and ride a day.

I'm doing the Triple By-Pass in July. That is the only planned ride so far. :)

Cypress 02-13-07 11:09 AM

I'll be driving 700+ miles for the Mt. Hood Classic.

Seemed like a good deal:

1. Drive 700 miles.
2. Get shamed.
3. Drive 700 miles back home.

BlessedHellride 02-13-07 11:37 AM

My buddy is competing in the Louisville Kentucky IronMan. We are going to go pre-ride the course at some point. It will be fun to ride the course he is going to be suffering through.

grahny 02-13-07 11:50 AM

No matter where I go, I still end up back home at somepoint... so I'm going to say I'm going nowhere but in very large random circles :)

superdex 02-13-07 12:03 PM

Heading to Moab (from Denver) first weekend of March; riding a lot locally, Triple Bypass, and I'm heading to Wichita Falls TX for the Hotter'en Hell in August. There are a couple weekend tours I want to do this summer, and we'll just see if I head east for a ride in PA or not....
