Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Helmetless Bikesdirect Campy vs. Shimano Thread

It's cold out.

I mean, it's cold out. And worse, it's been below freezing for about a month straight, with no rain... so all the roads in my neck of the woods have about a quarter-inch layer of salt on them.

Sigh. So, how do we release our collective cabin fever? BY HAVING A FLAMEFEST POLL!

Well then where is the poll?

Campy rules and I am about to buy at least one BD bike which I will ride at times with no helmet but never with an iPod. I wont be carrying a gun either.

That would not belong in the road forum, unless you were riding with him and he was wearing an ipod, not maintaining his line, etc.

Shimano. Campy. SRAM groupo*. What does it matter if you don't know how to clean your damn chain properly?

*yes, I realize that.

Which set of wheels should I buy?

I want a set that's under 1200 grams, very aero (at least 50mm deep) and strong as heck for everyday riding and I have $250 to spend.

I can't believe this poll doesn't have a compact vs. triple option.

that and "steel vs. plastic vs. beercan" type nonsense.

Oh hell no. It's on ebay, and some guy is selling it for 4000GBP. It's a record-equipped Dogma with LW wheels, Clavicula cranks, and all the goodies. Well into 5 figures retail... My poor little ghetto Chorus/Fulcrum-equipped F4:13 cost me less than that frameset.

I was just hoping it would throw people off because it's a Magnesium frame, and the frame materials debate team wouldn't know what to do with it.
