Cervelo pricing question.

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cervelo pricing question.

I am toying with buying a Cervelo R3 (basically the Ultegra or Dura-ace stock bike) from one of my LBS's? Should I expect to pay full MSRP? I don't really mind paying at or close to MSRP but just wondering if there is ever a discount on higher end bikes like this. Thanks.

That's up to you and your LBS. I'd say that yes, you can expect to get a discount. Especially if you're looking at leftover 06 stuff - in that case, the discount should be steep.

I think cervelo is pretty sticky on their retail pricing if your LBS wants to sell them super cheap I think they would have their dealer status revoked pretty quick. You might be able to get dura-ace at ultegra price on new bikes. Older stock should be discounted but I would not expect to save any more than 15-20%.

I'm not sure what their price policy is, but I can definitely say that I've seen prices advertised that were lower than retail, for current year and old stuff. Given that, I'd assume there is at least some wiggle room, but who knows. Maybe those were just rogue dealers.

dont post pics of yours

I live in Toronto, and pretty much the biggest discount is $100 for current models. I assume they are really popular here. Wheels of Bloor seems to have sales all the time for Zipps and Cervelos.

And here's my R3 sitting on snow.

Nice snow picture
Don't forget the OCP bits, large chain ring, line up the crank and hide the valves to mention a few

Not too worried about the OCP factor right now. I just want the snow to go away so I can ride without fear of skiing down the hill on my bike.

I bought my Soloist Team last October (right after InterBike) for about 14% off. It was originally marked at 9% off and it took quite a bit of effort and convincing to get it to 14%. The LBS owner didn't want to put the Cervélos on sale to begin with but had been convinced to do so by the employees... the 9% didn't even last long because two weeks after I bought my bike I noticed that everything had been marked back up to full retail.

Here's my beauty from when I first purchased (numerous upgrades made since, but no new picture)

They probably won't give you much of a discount. I know it sometimes seems like they should, because guys who buy nice bikes usually spend quite a bit of money at the shop, but it's often not up to the shop at all, really. Cervelo doesn't want one shop undercutting the rest of it's stores.

Plus, at least in the shop I worked in, we never saw the point in giving the rich guys the discounts. If you can afford and r3, you can afford an R3 at msrp (for the most part, of course there are exceptions). We would much rather give the discount to the junior scraping together cash for a lower end Felt or a Trek 1500.
