Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Advice on a finger

So, rode to school yesterday through the remains of our winter "storm" here in NYC. Went down HARD on some metal plating covering a construction area, and I'm not sure but I may have fallen on my right middle finger as well as my right leg and side of my torso. I couldn't correct anything because the bike was out from under me so fast and I was on the ground before I knew it, sliding along on my side (actually not bad at all since it was like sliding on butter - cold butter).

Anywho, my fingers got pretty cold as well. Got in my school and got the really really sharp pressure point pains as the blood and heat returned, but oddly enough my right middle finger stayed tingly. It still is and feels weird to use, but it's no longer swollen. It's not red, dead, or about to fall off, it just feels weird.

Before I'm berated about buying better gloves, I'm getting the craft Siberians today, and this morning will be my last ride with poor hand protection, i swear.

So...if you read the above post on one of your school tests, how would you know what the question was?

Go see a doctor, and when you come back we'll berate you for not wearing better gloves. Seriously, though, go make sure nothing is broken/etc. It could be that the cold kept the swelling down, or that the persistent numbness is from a dislocation or nerve injury. Go get it looked at. There's not a whole lot that usually needs to be done beyond a splint or taping, but you don't want to mess with the long-term problems that come with untreated bony injuries.

Wasn't that your thread about the freezing hand a few weeks ago, or was that someone else?

+1 I broke a finger in a fall. Do see a doc.

After my fall, I got up and couldn't figure out why it hurt. Then I looked at it, and it started bleeding like crazy. Turns out I hyper-extended it and popped the skin under my knuckle like a sausage casing. 1/2" circumferential skin tear.

Anyway, yeah, get it checked out
