Crack in tire...
My first post here....
Wanted to get your opinon on this. This morning, I noticed a cut in my road tire (michelin axial 700x23) about 1 cm long. Its not very old, has about 600 miles on it. It seems I must have ridden over some glass piece or something sharp as the cut is about 2-3 mm deep. Should I change this tire or is there some way I could patch this up? Thanks. |
If it's the front tire, definately replace it. It becomes a serious safetey issue. Not seeing it, its hard to judge the damage otherwise.
|
Its the rear tire. I'll upload a picture once I get home.

Sadly I see this normal on Michelin tires. Same with Conti tires. They tend to slice rather easily.
If the slice goes all the way through you may just be able to slide a 'patch' inside. The tube will hlp it stay in place. If you want you can also just replace it. |
it stinks to have to buy a new one, but generally speaking if theres a problem with a tire its best to replace it :(
|
I also vote to get rid of it and spend 50 bucks to get a Kevlar tire. The last thing you need 50 miles from home is to wonder how you're going to get home!

My previous tire was a kevlar one (Michelin Axial Kevlar Road Tire -Wire Bead.)
Any suggestions on what are some good (best value for money) road tires out there. Thanks. |

I was in the market for my sons bike tire, settled for the Conti, at MEC $12.50 a piece, but, I have heard that the Conti 4 season is a great tire, but the price is $80.00, right now I am riding a Michellin Giro de Italia from last season so far I have two flat tire, so far so good,

Check out the Vittorio Rubino's. I recently picked up a pair at a lbs for $23 each. They are kevlar belted and according to the shop owner will last well over 2000 miles. Since putting them on I have gone over 1000 miles without a flat.

Turbo Armadillos get my vote.

Many of the local guys out here use the Vittoria Rubino models. The price is good and they last a lot longer than those lighter tires people buy for training.
Just buy a lower priced tire with more 'meat'. I am partial to Vittoria. I used for years in all my racing and never had a problem. So I speak from real experience through out the years and many countries. Not just a weekend on them. |
Thanks for all your advice. I saw a lot of good reviews on the web for Turbo Armadillo which helped me decide on this tire. I picked up one for $30 at the LBS this morning.
