Melting water bottles !!
 

Howdy! I haven't been posting much in the last months. It's good to be back.
So my wife HATES the idea of having to hand wash bottles. However, anytime we try to wash them in the dishwasher they become slightly misshapen due to subtle melting. The result is usually problems with the lid sealing or screwing on right.

...Solutions? ...Related stories?

You could wash them yourself....that might keep your wife happier...:)

ditto, shoemaker. Not even sure I want my wife washing my bottles for me.

I wash mine in the dishwasher all the time and never have a problem. I'd suggest that you turn off heated drying though (or use the energy saver mode, if that's what it's called on your machine). I'll bet the drying cycle is what's tweaking your bottles. It's a big waste of energy anyway.

I suspect mine would be rinsed with water from the toilet if I tried to fob the job off on my woman.

Just shake them with hot water for the tap for a few seconds and let them dry. If you must put them in the dishwasher, don't use heated drying and you'll be fine.

Ummmm....Guys ever think that maybe his wife rides and she hates washing her own bottles by hand?? There are those rare couples where both are insane cyclists....

How about getting one of your other wives to clean your bottles?

Perhaps your hot water heater is set to high, try adjusting the thermostat down. This will save a little energy also.

That would apply alot more to Colorado City than SLC.

Walgreens has sport bottles, which look and behave just like bicycle water bottles for about $.50. Buy a bunch, and just throw them away as they get grungy.

And, the top has a standard valve that shoots a good long stream of water to ward off dog attacks.

And for those who will jump down my throat for being environmentally and politically insensitive by promoting "throw away" water bottles, the bottles are made of the same plastic, one use bottles that bottled water and milk comes in.

turn down your water heater at that hot of a degree its gonna save you money anyway. Plus make sure they are on the top rack. And don't forget to wash behind your ears :D

Then you should recycle them when you don't want them anymore, don't just throw them away.

I just got a bottle from Soma Fab thats states it is dishwasher safe Just says keep away from the heating element. It is made of Crystal polypropylene and has no plastic smell or taste and does not leach chemicals from the plastic into your drink. I won't use the dishwasher however I just soak mine in warm soapy water then one swipe with a bottle brush,rinse and your done. whats the big deal about washing water bottles?

Ditto on using the dishwasher without the heating element.

You can also get some of those denture cleaning tabs, and drop it into the bottle with water inside. It supposedly works for camelbaks as well.

we probably all thought of that. jeez...accrue some good-husdand points and wash them by hand. don't tell me you don't have 3 minutes to spare between the both of you.

seriously though, if this is a major concern, I'd just give up cycling completely and donate your bike(s) to me.

You wash your bottles? Just put them in the freezer.

Get a girl friend on the side that likes washing your bike bottles. Problem solved. Next.
