My wife thinks I am a girly man for shaving legs

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No, I dont race! Just ride just about every day and don't want to pick gravel out of hairy road rash legs. (Two years of shaving, but only 1 year where I actually fell.) I know this topic has been discussed ad nauseam, so I hesitate to bring it up again. But....what the hey!!!

Why not reach a compromise, and just shave one leg?

Different animal. The thought was apparently that shaving the night before at home produces some amount of skin trauma so there are new little breaks in the skin. Electric clippers in the OR have become the standard. It's true that patients who shave at home the night before surgery have slightly higher wound infection rates.

if your wife thinks you're a 'girly man', then you probably are.

I used to be a Nair guy... I just don't care anymore, I guess. I don't have a lot of hair to begin with, just got underarm hair in the last three years. And yes, I'm well out of puberty. No, I am not Asian or African American.

And yes, I am harrassed constantly by riding buddies, both for my lack of shaving, and lack of stuff to shave.

this is the first year since 1979 that I did not shave my legs, actually it feels really strange, and my wife complained for 28 years about the shaving and prickly legs.
So mid-march I will shave them again, and she can start her whining and complaining.

Ditto if you worry if you are. Real men look how they will and it doesn't occur to them to think about it regardless of where they are.....

Or perhaps he should suggest that his wife not shave her legs?
I just want to know why when you turn 50 hair grows everywhere but the top of your head!

I dunno, I figured since I dont have anyone to impress I would give it a shot. They are right you can see much more definition without all the hair in the way. I have to say I am waaaaay more impressed with the way my legs look shaved vs. not shaved. Hmmm, I am sure you will figure out a middle ground on this one.

then they went faster up the hill than I did...hair or no hair it doesn't really matter. I guess it just depends on what the OP is willing to do and not do for his woman.

I think by this point the whole not being a "girly man" issue is a lost cause.

it's actually insidious in it's origins...it starts with small things and before you know it, you no longer exist as your previous incarnation...

oh well

I visited my local bike shop to buy clothes and decided it was out of my price range. solution:walmart starter mens lycra shirt and a pair of womens danskin spandex running pants. do what works. Cost 25 bucks for the whole outfit. Then I found another pair in clearance for 3 bucks. COOL . And best of all they are thickerWhich is great fall protection!

In our household I'm the only one that shaves....My wife waxes...Therefore I'm the proud owner of a Venus Razor...BTW, she loves it!!! To the point that she asks me to continue shaving through the winter instead of growing the fur back...Of course I obliged...
