Shimano 7 speed road brifters- where can they be found

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shimano 7 speed road brifters- where can they be found

I noticed today when at Walmart that the GMC Yukon road bike they sell has Shimano 7 speed brifters. They look just like Sora brifters, but in a seven speed. Anybody know if you can buy these (just the brifters) and where? I've been looking for a cheap upgrade for my seven speed bike. Any leads would be nice.

I bought 7 speed Sora brifters from Jenson USA back in September. A few places had them, but Jenson had the best price I found. Around $99 US or so.

Here they are:

These don't say Sora on them, I think they're lower than that even. I know I could get Sora 7 speed, but I'm looking for something cheaper.

this is a picture of the shifters that come on the bike.

Good luck finding anything from Shimano that is, integrated (STI), 7 speed, less than $99 and in good condition. I know the Kids road bikes come with 7 speed STIs but I am guessing that is what you are looking at for $99. Hell you can get Campy 10 speed Veloce Ergo levers with cables for $99 bucks...why go STI 7 speed unless you are replacing broken parts?

Ok, maybe I didn't make myself clear when I first posted. These shifters on this bike are not on Shimano's website, and they are not Soras, so I am guessing they are a lot cheaper than the Sora shifters. Therefore, I was wondering if you could buy these parts anywhere to upgrade my 7 speed road bike to STI on the cheap. These shifters come on a $300 bike made by GMC (called the Yukon) that is sold at Walmart. I think Walmart's website says that they are shimano tourney (which I thought was a mountain bike shifter). Anyway, if anyone actually has information on these shifters and how to acquire them, that would be nice. I'm really just looking for information about these shifters, not advice about where to get other kinds of shifters. Thanks.

I put 8 speed Sora STI on my 7 speed and just limit it to the large cog in the back with the stop screw on the RD. Works great. You would never know there is an 8th gear.

Or there is this:

Wow. Those look exactly like my 7 speed Sora's. They don't say Sora on them either, but they did on the box.

So are you saying these are Soras and not Shimano Tourney like Walmart's website says? Do you know that for a fact- I'd honestly like to know, since I can't find a brifter lower than sora on shimano's website.

I'm saying they look exacty like my Sora's down to bumps on the hood where the Flight Deck buttons would go if they were Flight Deck compatible. My guess is that maybe they renamed the 7 speed model, since they don't sell 7 speed Sora straight to consumers anymore. I don't know that the shifters are the same for a fact, but they look exactly the same. If you want to PM me your email, I'll send you a pic of the ones on my bike when I can.

There's always ebay for some used, RSX 7 speed. But if they're in good shape, they won't be cheap. A lot of people would like to upgrade their 7 speed because it's the most Shimano gears you can fit on a 126 rear without spreading the stays.
I've got a Bianchi that I'm leaving as 7 speed and adding RSX for just this reason, I don't want to risk spreading the stays.

Wow, I don't think I'd ever want brifters that bad. Downtubes are so much sexier, and they don't look so ugly. Those are just about as ugly as those electronic Mavic's.

RSX shifters are awesome - probably my favorite Shimano shifters ever made, or at least up there. See if you can find any on Craigslist - if not, eBay has them (though usually not for cheap).
