Crankset and Rear Derailer on a 06 Trek 1500

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Crankset and Rear Derailer on a 06 Trek 1500

I just bought a '07 Trek 1500 with an Ultegra Rear Derailer and Crankset. May question is I thought the '06 Trek 1500 had the Ultegra and the 07's have 105's now? I understand Ultegra is a step up but I paid 07 price for a possible 06 bike. The bike is also red, not sure if trek sold red 1500 in 06 or not? Any insight on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Aaron

I'm not particularly familiar with the details of Trek's lineup, but it is a common practice for a LBS to get a bike in a certain configuration from the manufacturer, and then swap out parts, upgrades or downgrades, to meet their price point, or to add some extra sell points to a particular model.

If your LBS sold it to you as an 07 model, my first instinct would be that it is an 07, that they chose to upgrade, in order to make it more desirable.

Don't panic about it. For the moment, assume you got a bonus upgrade. If you want, you can continue your research about it, to satisfy your anxiety, but its likely that you just got a good deal.

That is an 07. Trek was probably just using up some extra 9spd Ultegra stuff they had laying around. Be happy, it's even better then what you were supposed to get. The red deffinetely is the 07 color.

My friend got a 1500 at the end of 06 and it had the ultegra rear derailluer, with 105 cranks (believe triple crank) and it was blue. I dont believe it came in red in 06 because I was going to get one also but I waited to long and Trek no longer had the 06 models. and were coming out with the 07. I been getting quotes of around 1100 for the 07 model so if you got the 07 for that price good deal on your part.

I have a '06 1500 with full Ultegra, it's an aussie model though

Stupid Trek and their different named models for the same bike...
