new to clipless - walking on cleats?

bought my first set of clipless--shimano shoes (R075) and Look PP357 pedals. put the cleats in the most neutral position to start with, tightened the bolts, installed the pedals. put my shoes on, tried out on my trainer, took off the shoes.

the cleats are really shifted on the shoes, and I only walked like 5 steps total on the ground between the time I put them on and took them off. are the bolts not tight enough? am I somehow not supposed to walk at all on the cleats? SO confused. any help is very appreciated.

tighten em up

it really takes some tighening down to get them to stay in place...this is especially bad w/ brand new cleats....i have the same problem....just keep an eye on them, keep them tight and they'll eventually stay put...

right on, thanks guys. it's a confusing new world here in my house =)

last time I was seriously into biking, the "foot cages" were all the rage, hehe. ouch, okay, I feel old now.

I was at the bike shop today just browsing at new road bikes and couldnt figure out where the shifters were. imagine my surprise they're on the brakes now. felt like an idiot, hah...

I'm getting ready to buy my very first bike with brifters! :) Lots of 'classic/vintage' bikes in my history. I think I'm going to like them, though!

... Or use blue thread lock on the screws and only do it once. ;)

Edit: Beaten, oh well. ;)

+1 on blue loctite, but also check my shoes before every ride to ensure cleats are tightened.

When you do finally get the cleats adjusted properly (takes a bit of trial and error sometimes before your knees stop hurting), outline the cleat position with a permanent marker. It'll make it alot easier to tell if they're slipping and it makes replacing them alot easier. :D

+2 on blue loctite, but I after checking them for a few rides, now I don't do that any more as blue loctite removes the need to do that

I know what you mean, I'd always ridden on old, outdated bikes until the 'Dale, I understood the brifters really quickly, it's like I was born for them! Now the Campy's were a differnt story, but I'm looking to try them again.

Get a T-handled screwdriver or allen wrench.
Get some cleat covers. Kool Kovers has them for both Delta and Keo cleats.
