Beware Of Ebikestop.com

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I ordered a new FSA stem; great price, got it the next day with overnight shipping. Had a couple of questions about the product before the purchase, and they responded promptly via email. Simple purchase, but A+ service.

eBikeStop

I've visited their office several times to pick up orders. They are a small business, operating out of an old house on the west side of town. The folks who run it are experienced cyclists who know their products well, but probably the vast majority of their business is web orders, and so they are highly dependent on their distributors sending out the right products, so sometimes the wrong product goes out. I ordered a set of 27x1 1/4 tires for my old touring bike from them and waited several weeks for them, but the problem was with the distributor, not with them. The folks at the store responded promptly to my repeated emails asking about order status. When I finally cancelled the order after quite a long wait, they asked me if there was another tire I wanted as a replacement, and they got that in for me pretty quickly.

Anyway, they are able to accomplish their low prices by keeping their overhead very low, and even though that can lead to other problems, I respect them for carving out a pretty distinct niche. They allow me to "buy local" without paying a premium price.

eBikeStop jipped me.

Got my FedEx package right now, thought it was kind of odd that it felt almost weightless for a chain. Opened it up, the package had the chain box but NO CHAIN.

Oh, now this thread shows up. I ordered some Tacx assembly compound from them this morning. Hopefully my tube won't be empty.

I had an issue with them a couple years ago. Ordered a few parts, and it never showed up, even though the Fedex tracking said "Delivered". Turns out it was delivered to the wrong address (it was NOT my signature listed). Contacted eBikeStop, they said it wasn't their problem. Called FedEx, and they told me the shipper has to make the claim. Had to go back and forth between the two to finally get a claim, and when eBikeStop got the refund from FedEx they refunded me.

As a consumer, it was a pain to deal with. I can't imagine the same thing happening had I ordered from Performance/Nashbar and the package was misdelivered.

I ordered from them this past september. I believe I placed my order on the 26th, i didnt receive the order until I think October 12th.

I was pissed it took so long to order but from what I remember they were at Interbike the week before and had to fulfill all of the other orders they have received. That and their shop was broken into while they were away and again a week later, so they had to move their location.

I did some research and I got the owners personal cell phone number and gave him a call. The reason for this was because my credit card was charged on the 30th and I had received no update on the status of my order so I was pissed needless to say. When I talked to the owner he seemed very apologetic and frustrated as to why their shop kept getting broke into so I felt pretty bad for the guy. He gave me a call back 15 minutes after I talked to him to tell me my order was waiting on a supplier to deliver them the item and it will go out next day after that. Sure enough it did.

So although they arent the quickest I do realize that a lot of small businesses have to keep their overhead low and it may take a little longer for a better price. Plus I like to support the little guy. I have had some bad luck with Performance with their parts being crap.

Just yesterday I ordered a Park Pump for 40 bucks although I do need a new pump but I currently have one that will make due until the new one arrives which will hopefully be in a week or so.

I will typically phone in my orders from internet stores. This does four things for me. It lets me know just how hard or easy it is to talk to a human being. It allows me to ask any questions I may have. I'm able to get a solid idea of what the shipping charges will be. And I'm able to find out if something is on a dreaded back order. I do not do back orders.

eBikeStop is now affiliated with Google Checkout, if that matters.

I've purchased from them a few times, no problems with the order - everything came in, and the prices were good.

The only snaggle tooth that lingers with them is that the time between placing the order and having the order shipped can sometimes be a few days, even if the item is indicated as "in stock." That's all.

I've purchased from them and exchanged items with no problems at all. The guy has always been prompt with my emails and seems concerned about customer satisfaction. I have been much happier with them than I have been with Nashbar/Performance.

I have used eBikestop

But only as a pricematch to buy from better stores (esp 3ringcycles.com)!

So my order with eBikestop.com went through just fine. Ordered, paid, delivered in less than a week.

I bought some nice Vermarc jerseys from them a couple years back because they were way cheap. Then, they jacked their prices on them up to where everybody else sells them. Flawless transaction at the time, though.

ebikestop

I've placed a few orders with ebikestop over the last few years, two orders very recently. No problems with any of them and they seem pretty responsive to my requests for status/information. I'd have no problem recommending them.
