38 degress and wet.. should I ride ?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

38 degress and wet.. should I ride ?

Just had 5 inches of snow yesterday here in the northeast but the rain just washed most of it. This morning it was around 28 and there was black ice on the road. Now its starting to warm up (around 40 degress) with some melting going on and I am thinking of going for a ride. I plan to go on main and secondary roads but I am such a wuss that I worry about road being wet with still the possibility of some ice. Should I do it ? I have ridden in colder temperatures but when its dry.

Black Ice is still a possibility until ~45ºF. Is it done raining?

I don't know. I am in MA and the roads last night got *very* slick. I had ice on my driveway until about 2 hours ago (and it is in the sun). I'm itching to go too, but probably not today.

It was slick this morning in NH. Some melting going on but the conditions are borderline. May just skip today. Tomorrow maybe. Better safe than sorry.

I'm in the low 40s and the rain just stopped. Rained just enough to get the snow off the roads. I'll be heading out in the next hour or so

Dude, no one rides sitting in front of a frekin computer; once you're out there it will all seem different. Ride hard and you stay warm; watch for ice. Cold and windy here but I'm leaving on a ride as soon as I send this, honest I swear to God. All you have is now, tomorrow? ......

Funny that you mentioned about sitting on the computer because I was thinking the same thing. I said to myself by the time I decide what to do it would probably be dark so I decided to get off my butt and eventually did a 20 mile ride on familiar roads.

Yup it was wet all right. Some puddles which I didn't mind going over .. better than snow or ice.
Southern NH ... same area ?

after two months of not getting to 40 degrees when it hit 52 today I was in shorts after my ride and just leg and arm warmers durring(darn near tropical). Possible black ice just becomes another factor like people in cars on the phone.

I went down on some black ice on my commute one morning last month. Luckily I only went down on one knee and ended up with a tiny bit of road rash. All in all, it wasn't worth the ride even then. Better safe than sorry is the way that I will look at black ice days now.

Get your rain bike out and ride. Sometime it is fun to ride in that condition. LET'S GO!!
