Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Weatheman Wrong Again

Headed out this afternoon in SE Pa. hoping to get in a 1/2 century. Forecast was for high 40's / partly cloudy. Debated before I left wether to wear my booties given there is still some run off from melting snow but the sun was shining and I was anxious to get on the road. Winds started to pick up significantly early into the ride and temperature dropped a degree or two but I shrugged it off and kept peddeling. About and hour into the ride it started raining lightly and the sky was looking ominous but kept going. Ten minutes later a solid cold rain was coming down and the wind was blowing hard. I had on a jacket which actually worked pretty well (Peral Izumi Gavia) but my legs and shoes started to soak through. Ten minutes later I could feel my toes starting to go numb .... tried to keep wiggling them but to no avail. Rain did let up but unfortunately my toes were numb .... had to call it. Had the weather forecast been accurate would have worn my booties and different tights ( as well as gloves). Only got in 1/2 the ride I had hoped to but better than nothing. Getting wimpy in my old age.
