Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Meet Joe Black

He's a Diamondback Podium 5 CF monocoque, built for hills. Observe how I route my cables; took me a good 3 hours to make everything works smoothly. They're nokon/traditional cable mix for campy-like routing with shimano iSTI. I had to mix cable housings to eliminate excessive noise due to tension in the nokon links at the front.

Just discovered a new function for nokon loop-storing spare STIs

together, looking from the side, cables look quite organized. Helps deter me from going back to Sram or convert to campy.

mmkay.

1) I thought this thread, at quick glance, was about JackBlack. <sipping the last of JackBlack from the glass> I guess not.

2) Purty set-up. You sure 'nuf worked hard on that.

Didn't say anything about your sobriety, did I? Sheesh.

Nice pics. My mistake. I saw "JackBlack," then realized my mistake. <shrug> But nice pics, and a B-U-T-ful setup, as I said before. An' yer welcome for the compliment.

Yeah...vega, thanks for your compliment on the set up. Don't take my comments too seriously though as I like jolt people congenially with my comments.

It is definitely different. I am not sure that I can tell from the pictures if I would like it better. What is the advantage of this routing? Looks only? Any disadvantage so far or that you might experience later?

This routing has been discussed many times before. First seen at the Tour de France in 2004 on Erik Zabel's bike.

well, it's mostly looks but it's also more aero with this set up. My loop is much smaller than Zabel's but it works just fine. Mixing nokon and traditional cables in key areas make braking and shifting a little smoother than using traditional cables alone. I love my DA shifters but I really hate the bug-antennae set up. Shimano is too much on function....a little aesthetic consideration would be nice.

Also, the nokon brake housings are lighter than DA brake housings. The weight for the shift housings between shimano DA and nokon are about equal.
