Anybody 190-200lbs riding/racing a Cervelo R3?
 

I am curious if anybody out there in the 190-200lb range is riding/racing the Cervelo R3? I am considering getting an R3 and am curious if they can withstand a larger rider.

Yes. . I'm 200lbs.. Cervelo makes some of the strongest lightest frames...Thats why I bought my R3.

I went to a Cervelo Service School awhile back and they said even If I was a monster at 350lbs. there would be a problem with the frame/forks they make.

Thats why they give a lifetime warranty. (According to Cervelo)

yes, just watch the testing video at the Cervelo site. that would say it all.
I just took mine on its first ride Sunday, built it up with SRAM force (hence my photo in the sig)

I'm 200-205, and when I was shopping for a bike primarily for crit racing, the R3 was in the final two. It came very highly recommended, but I liked the Pinarello's handling a little better.

Cancellara's a bit under that weight, but I'd bet he puts out crazy big wattage compared to you. I think you'll be okay.

Thanks for all the responses! I assumed that it wouldn't be that big of a deal but I keep hearing people in Norcal chirp about how the big guys ride the Carbon Soloist.

I'm a 140-ish pounder, so my experience may be a bit different, but I absolutely love my R3. It's like taking the best attributes of my Specialized Roubaix Comp (extremely comfortable) and my Specialized Allez Sport (lively feel, confident handling, precise tracking at high speed) and subtracting a bunch of weight at the same time. They're all perfectly competent bikes (I've done a century on each one) but the one I truly love is the R3. But as they say, YMMV.

Height is not relevant in determining a component's breaking-point. 200 lbs. is 200 lbs., regardless of whether it's on a 5'5" body, or a 6'5" body.

The R3 has been tested to be the strongest frame in EFBe testing currently on the market. It also has one of the stiffest BBs and torsional stiffness, these are real numbers, not just the usual BF BS. It's actually stiffer than the CF Soloist. The closest thing to it is the Scott CR1 (they are made in the same plant).
Despite that, the frame is almost as vertically compliant as titanium. It feels like ti on the flats and bumps, but definitely feels different on climbs and high-speed cornering.
190lb, 6'4". I found that this frame excelled in large frame sizes over others. Most manufacturers frames are not well designed at 58+ cm sizes.

Assuming you believe what is printed about their weights. I saw him at the TOC and he didn't look 175.

fair enough, but i seriously doubt that he's "a bit under" 200 lb.

He's a little stocky, but he's not that tall. I'd be surprise to hear he's over 185.

The top point of the pentagon is BB stiffness (higher is theoretically better) and the upper right is head tube stiffness (again, high is better).

Desflurane - did you build that up? or did you switch out the FSA Megaexo crankset? Just curious if you switched it out? How do you like those ES's on there as well?

I am not 100% sold on the carbon cranksets and was thinking of swapping it out for a regular ole dura-ace crank set. Anybody have any thoughts on the FSA Megaexo crankset vs. Dura-ace?

I forgot about the Canyon, but it weighs 200g more.

Built it up with a R700 crank I already had + Dura ace for the rest.
Too much negative vibe on the FSA to consider swapping from a crank I know to be a great shifter.
The ES wheels were great, stiff, easy to accelerate and bullet proof, however I have sold them to fund my Powertap.
The PT has improved my riding more than the ESs ever did.
I sold the wheels to a riding friend so I still see them on rides, but as I can now ride him off my wheel I don't see them that often:D
He used to be over one hour quicker on a hilly century:eek: How the worm has turned:)

200 lbs is imo

I was. The frame can handle you - if anything the frame might say "that all you got?" when you sit on it. Worry about wheels.

OP - I'm around 180lbs at the moment and would really hope not to be troubling any stock components just yet! I would re-evaluate if you get to 230+lbs. Would people say this is fair? Am I being naive in thinking my weight is ok for cycling?!
