difference between 105 and ultegra front hubs?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

difference between 105 and ultegra front hubs?

performance has a super good deal on 105/open pro's right now and my front wheel has been making weird noises. (how can it ping when it's radially laced?)

anyway, i hear that ultegra/open pro is the best way to go for a strong training/basic race wheel. How about 105/open pro.

Is it noticably poorer quality or just a little heavier?

thanks,
B.

Post this is the mechanics portion of the forums. One of the bike techs is likely to be familiar with any significant differences in the hubs.

I have no experence with the 2006/2007 Shimano hubs. But, over the past twenty years, the 105 and Ultegra components I've used have been of very similar quality as to their performance and durability. The Ultegra stuff is sometimes a little prettier and a touch lighter than 105. But, I've never worn out a 105 hub. The hub and rims you are looking at can be built into wheels that are far stronger than many of today's ultra-light, ultra-expensive "super" wheels.

Thanks for the heads up! I just got it plus used the latest coupon code in the BF Coupon Forum for another $7 off. Too bad shipping is almost $19 as a wheel is considered an 'overweight' item. Better not be.

(yeah I know its because its 'oversized' but thats not what the shipping charge note says)

I just tried to order a 105 wheelset and was ready to enter the ol' VISA number when I noticed:

($50.25) BIKE CLUB 2-DAY UPGRADE

Some team performance benefit.

Does anybody know if you use the Red Phone at Performance that you could use the web prices vs. the catalog prices?

There is no shipping when you send it to the store by using the Red Phone. There is if you send it to your house or another address. For $50 bucks, I'll drive to the store every time.
