How to make my jersey fit?

I've got fairly broad shoulders, average size chest, and a small waist. Thus, my jerseys fit my neck, shoulders, arms, and chest, but are baggy around my waist, leading to pockets that sag when they've got stuff in them.

Without putting on additional weight, how can I get these jerseys to fit better? I don't want to get them tailored, that just seems excessive. Are there other options?

try before you buy.

I did, this was the best-fitting jersey. The large was too big, the small was too small.

blonduathlongrl 03-08-07 12:10 PM

why not get them tailored so that you can have the perfect fit for you?:)
there's nothing wrong with that... we spend so much time making sure everything else has a perfect fit for our bodies, why not the clothes too specially if you are talking in a functional way.
I would, nothing wrong with that and it's not pricely.:)

Look for "Pro Fit" jerseys.

And the obvious (see botto's post). You have an "athletic build." It is not the average, but you are not exactly martian either ..

Namenda 03-08-07 12:11 PM

Next time you go to McDonald's, ask them to supersize it...

sorry, but i have as much pity for guys with broad shoulders and thin waists as I do for the 6'+ guys who complain about bike gear not fitting them.

none.

:D

I'm talking about team kit jerseys, so it's not a matter of me buying something that doesn't fit, but rather being issued something that doesn't fit.

You could always wear a belt around your waist like Pat Benatar.

i found that castelli fit tighter around the waist.

This would match my kit nicely...

Tell them to issue you race fit jerseys.

Get someone to modify it for you. I'm lucky because one of my family members can do this for me. Typicall they narrow the waist part, it's fast and easily reversible.

I have the same issue as you do - broad shoulders narrow waist.

Hi All-

Whenever there is a choice, opt for "race fit" over the baggier "club cut" for your riding jerseys. Even if you have to go larger-than-normal to accommodate your shoulders, it should still be slimmer through the waist when using the "race cut" garments.

Eurocut.

Welcome to my world of buying jerseys. ;)

I either get pocket sag or gut sag (well beyond my actual gut).

Is the knit material easily alterable? My racing jersey fits well, but I struggle to find others for training, even some Euro or race fit. I don't mind if the jersey design gets messed up on those with some alterations, but I wonder how much of an expert your tailor has to be. My family members who sew don't have machines that can handle stretchy knits. I'm considering pinning the sides, but that's probably not good for the fabric either with any weight in the pockets, huh?

hate that you quoted me, I wrote pricy wrong.:o :p

Quijibo187 03-08-07 12:51 PM

Just get a tatoo that matches the jersey, nobody will know the difference.
Just don't go joining another team every 6 weeks.

you spell every other word incorrectly, but we're used to it by now.

I had the same problem with a couple jerseys. I had my wife run her sewing machine up the seams on both sides at about 1/2" on the bottom tapering up to 0" under the arm pits to take up the excess fabric.

Check out this jersey, if you haven't seen it already: http://www.velowear.com/ProductDetai...62%20BLK%20XSM First vendor I've seen who actually states that the jerseys have a tapered waist.

I can't wear women's stuff in Voler. Too short. Too narrow in shoulders. The men's race jerseys fit well enough. But they don't seem to sell race cut outside of the custom lines. I'm still on the hunt for practice jerseys (I only bought one race jersey this year, because I had to guess on fit--missed the samples. I guessed right, and I wish I had gotten more!)

Coyote2 03-08-07 01:21 PM

I have same problem: I have a 41" chest, 31" waist, am 6'1". Only jersey (that I've tried) that fits perfectly is Assos.

RacerMike 03-08-07 01:33 PM

Try this.

DocRay 03-08-07 01:48 PM

why,... I'm wearing one right now!!
