Got my new pedals...Bebops...

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Got my new pedals...Bebops...

Got my pedals today. Bebop chromolys..didn't get to take them out on the road because we got about 10" of snow yesterday... but I did give them some time on my trainer...

verdict?

I love them....they're the best system i've tried so far...effortless engagement/disengagement...just step down on it and they engage...not hard to line up at all...and you get a reasssuring click...twist out and it snaps like glass....VERY precise feeling...

cleats are nice...low stack height...which is also a plus...and they're MUCH easier to walk in than the goddamn LOOK cleats....

can see why Speedplay sued them....they're similar, but FAR superior IMO....don't have to worry about cleaning them out or anything, and they're easier to engage...

Where did you get these? How much? They were discontinued, right?

I have the Speedplay Frogs. I like them, except you clip in by sliding your foot forward from the back of the pedal. Every now and then I'll miss and my leg will just go flinging forward. Makes me look like a complete idiot.

Thanks, good to know, I'll have to try them.

Found the website. The "History Of Bepop" is very funny:

Hey, congrats, you got them!

BeBop did, in fact, quit manufacturing them for a while. They're now back in production courtesy of a big Taiwan bike part outfit. The pair you bought are the new kind from Taiwan.

I have two pairs of the "old" kind and one pair of the new Taiwanese models. They're exactly the same, except the new ones have yellow dust caps.

I've been getting mine from Cambria, but it looks like you got better prices on the Bay. I'm likely to head over there and get my fourth pair soon.

Bebop user and fan here. Cambria still has best prices on replacment cleats for Bebops although they have raised the prices of the complete pedal set, still reasonable in my book. The first time you actually ride on the road with them you will think your skating on ice due to the float. If you have an indoor trainer use it to get used to the difference.

The float actually didn't seem like that much of a difference to me....I've been using looks w/ the red cleats ( I think those are 15 degree float)...

before I bought them I did a little bit of research about the cleats...I did find cambria had the best prices...

how long are your cleats typically lasting?
