Bicycling In The Big City

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A a biker that lives in New York I want to point out that the video we've just seen is 100% accurate of cycling in the city, and is 100% representative of New York cyclists. We're all a bunch reckless lunatics on fixies.

If I seem annoyed it's more because it's 4:15 in the morning and not only am I up and eating breakfast, but I'm alert enough to post on this forum. Now excuse me, I'm off to the races.

I'm tempted to borrow a camera & follow a more typical commuter just so there will be a new link to post.

You don't like hip hop? Fine. But the worst music? I guess you've been immune to the stuff American Idol has been spewing out over the past few years.

By the way, the original version of this video had Welcome to the Jungle by Guns n Roses on it. Perfect for the old white male.

Anyone have a vid of these guys getting they're face caved in by a bus or cabbie. That would be enjoyment. And the music did suck - alot.

Pretty much it. However traffic is usually far worse! Must have been a Sunday morning. For myself ... the only difference is that I am a bit (a tiny bit) more respectful of crossing pedestrians. Sometimes it's disconcerting to see it from a camera, another perspective - I think we never fully consider how close we can come to being crushed like a bug. If we did we'd all be restricted to doing laps in the park. Adrenaline, feelings of invincibility and a healthy dose of contempt for motor vehicles easily supplant timidity and excessive, even dangerous caution.

That's a Lucas Brunelle video, and someone redid the soundtrack. Why?

Here are all his videos. They are all awesome.

Seems kind of a risky ride. Lost of weaving through pedestrians and cars that I'm not sure needed to be done. I'd be kind of angry if I was walking across the street on a crosswalk and some cyclist came burnign through there or was a driver and someone was weaving in and out of the street about to get hit. Just me though !

That vid has been around since the beginning of time. However, that is what it was like when I was younger & rode my BMX bike through NYC. Except my friends were a bit more reckless

Bah, it's totally a redone music track. The original Lucas Brunelle edit with Guns 'N Roses - Welcome To The Jungle is waaaay better.

Yeah i agree Welcome to the Jungle is way more fitting for that video. Brunnelle had it done right. We had an alleycat race here on a friday night. Granted not a big city, but a lot of people within a college town. Pretty much the most fun I have ever had on a bike.
