trekking bars: anyone find 'em too wide?
as you know i'm in search of an ultimate allrounder bar:
one that is just as at home in long distance touring/windy rides
fast rides/randonneuring as it is for firetrails, rough roads etc....so
have been toying with both a trekking bar (the one offered
by bbbparts/www.bbbparts.com and/or tweaking the nitto albatross
bars I currently have...or trying a on-one mary type bars
(ay vay, the choices!)
I was reading the dimension of many bars
(they all average it seems
56cm at the widest point)
and I wonder if that is
a bit too wide...I mean 57cm?..
how wide a bar
do you need to handle stresses/with a load uphilll?
Now until I actually go in to my LBS and try out a trekking bar
I really won't know...(a bbb trekking bar has been ordered)
any feedback on this? (I know I can also look at the modolo yuma
bar which comes in 3 different widths but that's from the UK...or does
anyone in the USA sell it?)...but I've also read that the modolo yuma
bar is not really intended for heavy duty, loaded touring as it can flex
quite a bit...so modolo owners, pls offer me your two cents.

I have a Modolo Yuma bar that's 50 cm wide as I did have 58 cm generic trekking bars beforehand and found them too wide. The Modolo bars don't flex anymore than any other handlebar I've ever used.

Nashbar trekking bars are 50-51cm wide and no I don't find them too wide. I actually found them a bit narrow at first as I was coming from 60-64cm wide riser bars.
